CONSTITUTION: An article, especially polyamide-based fiber (e.g. nylon) is temporarily and sufficiently colored with an aqueous solution of colorant having a chromophore represented by formula I, II or III (A is a polyoxyalkylene substituent group), having a polyoxyalkylene group, having an electron-attracting group selected from NO 2, CN, cyanophenyl, nitrophenyl, etc., and an electron- donating group selected from arylamine, arylalkoxide, etc. The solution is applied to the textile fiber to maintain identification of the fiber during subsequent weaving, knitting or tufting operations and finally can be removed by water and residual colorant by heat set treatment etc. can be decolorized by hydrolysis with an application of an acid solution to the colorant.
