1461863 Knitting-machines UNIVERSAL MACHINENFABRIK DR RUDOLF SCHIEBER KG 23 Aug 1974 [5 Sept 1973] 37261/74 Heading D1C In a flat machine having carriages 2 circulating over two or more needle beds, the carriages are spaced while over the beds by spacers and joined by interengaging guide elements. The carriages 2 circulate over two pairs of needle beds 3, 4 connected by curved tracks consisting of inner and outer guide rails 7, 8. The carriages are driven by chain 9 and their relative spacing increases as they move around tracks 5, 6-see carriages 2a, 2b. Each carriage carries at one side an adjustable distance pin 15 and a guide bolt 17 engaging in a guide recess 18 in an adjacent carriage, when the carriages are over the beds. The carriages are also held together at this time by catches (19 Fig. 8, not shown) which engage noses (21) on adjacent carriages and are released by cams (20) at the commencement of the curved tracks. |

The control system for a double-carding unit to feed sliver to a high-pile machine, to give the pattern of the fabric from a circular pile knitter where a sliver is looped into the basic silver matl., uses switches which are operated by the rotating needle cylinder to determine the operating cycle of the two carding units. The system allows a tubular velvet or artificial fur fabric to be developed with longitudinal pattern stripes of variable width according to pattern requirements, using a conventional double-card unit with a high-pile machine. |

Flat bed knitting Y or V edges - with edges transferred to transfer bar after introduction of separating element |

With edges held on each needle row, an inextensible cord is doubled between them, held around a peg at one end and clamped at the other. One row then transfers its stitches to the other, forming a tunnel through which the cord runs. Both stitch rows are then transferred to the transfer needle bar, which then swings up. The stitches of the edge further from the transfer needle points are clamped to the needles (by a flat bar holding them against the transfer needle shanks, or by a bar with upstanding hooks) while a second transfer bar engages its needle tips in the needle tips of the first transfer bar. The separating element is hooked on to the cord and drawn through, spreading the Y-w V-sections apart so that one edge runs on to the second transfer bar needles. The transfer bars then separate while a newly knit edge is introduced (to an indeterminate heigth) between them and hooked on to the second bar needles, after which the bars rejoin, and the edge on the first transfer needles is transferred to the second bar, sandwiching the new edge. Knitting then continues to secure the edges. |
