[Class 74 (ii).] In the manufacture of knitted fabric designed to have an increased resistance to stretch in a lateral direction, a burr or stitch-wheel is employed in which certain blades are cut away at 9 so that they do not sink loops, or sink them to a reduced extent. Full loops are thus sunk on a proportion only of the needles as shown in Fig. 3. A backing yarn may be fed in to produce pile loops on one or both faces, and it is stated that these loops are rendered more pronounced by reason of the knitted yarn .being laid in the manner described. |

The narrowing operation is effected by throwing out the pressers 7 one by one and leaving double stitches on the corresponding needles and the widening is effected by throwing the pressers into action again. By this means all varieties of stockings &c. can be completed on the machine in a continuous operation. |

Circular machines.-The axles of loop, dividing, presser, landing, knooking-over, and clearing wheels are provided with lubricators such as a grease cap 14 which is screwed or pressed on to a boss 15 of the hub 16 of the loop &c. wheel. A sleeve 18 in the hub 16 works freely on a spindle 17, which is screwed at the head end and is mounted on an arm 19. The clearing-wheel 13 is preferably constructed with a body portion 22 having an extended boss 23 and a cavity 24 for the lubricant. The spindle 17 is threaded at both ends, and the free end carries a cap or plug 25. |

The plate 1 is pivoted at 2 to a bracket 3 attached to an arm a. An extension 5 of the plate 1 overlaps a projecting portion 7 of the bracket 3, adjustment being obtained by a set-screw 8. The yielding means comprise a spring 11 carried by a guide-rod 12 and bearing against the front end of the plate 1 at 13, the pressure. being varied by means of a thumb-screw 10. In a modified form a yielding portion is mounted to slide upon a fixed portion of the evener-plate. |

Die Vorrichtung umfasst ein Stegformwerkzeug, mit dem ein Stegabschnitt des Geleges eingespannt wird, ein Umformwerkzeug, mit dem Lagen eines Flanschabschnitts des Geleges in zwei Teile aufgeteilt und zu dem Flansch umgeformt werden, eine Ablagevorrichtung, mit der ein Schlauchkörper auf dem zum Flansch umgeformten Flanschabschnitt abgelegt wird, ein Haltewerkzeug, mit dem ein Freiraum zwischen dem Haltewerkzeug und dem Flansch gebildet wird, und eine Füllvorrichtung, mit der der Schlauchkörper derart mit einem Gas gefüllt wird, dass der Schlauchkörper den Freiraum ausfüllt und den zum Flansch umgeformten Flanschabschnitt festhält. Weiterhin wird ein entsprechendes Verfahren dargestellt und beansprucht. |
