[Class 74 (ii).] In the manufacture of knitted fabric designed to have an increased resistance to stretch in a lateral direction, a burr or stitch-wheel is employed in which certain blades are cut away at 9 so that they do not sink loops, or sink them to a reduced extent. Full loops are thus sunk on a proportion only of the needles as shown in Fig. 3. A backing yarn may be fed in to produce pile loops on one or both faces, and it is stated that these loops are rendered more pronounced by reason of the knitted yarn .being laid in the manner described.

The larger wheel 2 is mounted on a spindle carried by a bracket 7 capable of being slid endways in a holder by turning a knob 8. The smaller wheel 1 is mounted on a jointed arm 11 carried by the boss 6 of the wheel 2 and can be adjusted radially and circumferentially of the wheel 1 and also vertically.

Straight-bar machines. -Heel and toe fashioning is effected by means of auxiliary pressers 7 which are separately mounted, one to each fashioning needle on rods 8 supported on the ends of levers 11 and individually controlled by means of keys in a suitable key - board. The parts 7 work in cut-away portions 6 of the main presser 5. The narrowing operation is effected by throwing out the pressers 7 one by one and leaving double stitches on the corresponding needles and the widening is effected by throwing the pressers into action again. By this means all varieties of stockings &c. can be completed on the machine in a continuous operation.

Circular machines.-The axles of loop, dividing, presser, landing, knooking-over, and clearing wheels are provided with lubricators such as a grease cap 14 which is screwed or pressed on to a boss 15 of the hub 16 of the loop &c. wheel. A sleeve 18 in the hub 16 works freely on a spindle 17, which is screwed at the head end and is mounted on an arm 19. The clearing-wheel 13 is preferably constructed with a body portion 22 having an extended boss 23 and a cavity 24 for the lubricant. The spindle 17 is threaded at both ends, and the free end carries a cap or plug 25.

Circular machines.-Machines of the type described in Specification 2812/08 are provided with an adjustable yielding evener-plate 1 for supporting the needles against the thrust of the sinkers when measuring off thread, the yielding means allowing the evener-plate to give way on encountering obstructions when a rigid evenerplate might injure the needles and sinkers. The plate 1 is pivoted at 2 to a bracket 3 attached to an arm a. An extension 5 of the plate 1 overlaps a projecting portion 7 of the bracket 3, adjustment being obtained by a set-screw 8. The yielding means comprise a spring 11 carried by a guide-rod 12 and bearing against the front end of the plate 1 at 13, the pressure. being varied by means of a thumb-screw 10. In a modified form a yielding portion is mounted to slide upon a fixed portion of the evener-plate.

Dargestellt und beanspruch ist eine Vorrichtung zur Herstellung eines T-förmigen Halbzeugs aus einem mehrlagigen Gelege von Verstärkungsfasern für einen Verbundwerkstoff. Das T-förmige Halbzeug weist einen Steg und einen Flansch auf. Die Vorrichtung umfasst ein Stegformwerkzeug, mit dem ein Stegabschnitt des Geleges eingespannt wird, ein Umformwerkzeug, mit dem Lagen eines Flanschabschnitts des Geleges in zwei Teile aufgeteilt und zu dem Flansch umgeformt werden, eine Ablagevorrichtung, mit der ein Schlauchkörper auf dem zum Flansch umgeformten Flanschabschnitt abgelegt wird, ein Haltewerkzeug, mit dem ein Freiraum zwischen dem Haltewerkzeug und dem Flansch gebildet wird, und eine Füllvorrichtung, mit der der Schlauchkörper derart mit einem Gas gefüllt wird, dass der Schlauchkörper den Freiraum ausfüllt und den zum Flansch umgeformten Flanschabschnitt festhält. Weiterhin wird ein entsprechendes Verfahren dargestellt und beansprucht.

The sinker, for knitting fleece fabrics on a circular knitter, has a foot with two nibs (12,13) projecting from the sinker body with a throat (14) between them. Three knock-over sinkers (15-17) are under the second nib with a throat (18) between them. The second knock-over sinker (16) is 1.4-1.6 mm over the first knock-over sinker (15). A section with an outward chamfer (19) links the first two knock-over sinkers. The third knock-over sinker (17) is 1.1-1.3 mm over the second, with an outward chamfer (20) linking them. The two chamfers are at an angle of 35-45[deg] in relation to a theoretical inward extension of the first or second knock-over sinkers.
