A restraining device for trouser legs provides ornamentation and includes a central elastic strap to which link chains are affixed at each end. Folded elastic fabric end segments are attached at opposite ends of the link chains and a conventional snap fastener is securely affixed to the elastic end segments. Mating snap fasteners are also affixed interiorly to the inside and outside of each trouser leg to engage the fasteners of the end segments. The restraining device is placed across the sole or bottom of a boot or shoe so when the wearer's knee is bent, and the pant legs moves up the wearer's leg as a result, the restraining device resiliently urges the leg of the trousers to return to its fully extended or normal position against the boot or shoe. Decorative charms are joined to excess lengths of the chains as desired by the wearer.

The attachment device maintains the firefighter's trousers in covering relationship to the boots, and portions of the trousers cannot become lodged on the upper edge of the boots as the firefighter bends and crawls and the like. Each attachment device has a band which encompasses one of the firefighter's boots. A strap extends from the band and has fastener elements which attach to portions of the firefighter's trousers which encompass the boot. Thus, the trousers are attached to the boot.

[Also in Division E2] A trouser "strap" which passes under the wearer's foot to tension the trouser legs is formed in the shape of an ankle sock which is detachable from the trouser leg. The ankle sock, preferably knitted of superpolyanoidic yarn, and shaped on a template under steam pressure has strips 11 (Fig. 5) of "Velcro" (Trade Mark) secured to the turn-over edge which engage with cooperating strips 9 (Fig. 3) on the lower edge of the trouser leg 8. In a further embodiment the "Velcro" strips extend the full width of the trouser leg and ankle sock edge a small gap being left in the strip on the trouser leg to allow the usual vertical cut to open when the trousers are put on. To ensure comfort the securing strip 35 (Fig. 16) may be fitted to an auxiliary strip 36 the selvedge 37 of which is secured to the trouser leg 38, the ankle sock 39 (Fig. 15) carrying the co-operating strip 41 on its inner surface, which is inserted between the auxiliary strip 36 and the inner surface of the trouser leg 38. The attachment means may in a modification comprise buttons and buttonholes and the ankle sock may be toeless.
