The central frame member is disposed substantially along the centerline of the wheelchair and structurally distributes of the weight of the seat assembly (and optionally the weight of the energy source) to the supporting drive wheels and casters. In this manner, a clean- looking, simple, and lightweight chassis structure is provided for a conveyance.

The first push-pull rod, the second push-pull rod, and the intermediate link provide counter phase synchronous pivoting of the two axles relative to the transportation dolly.

Applicant's invention is of an improved multi-wheeled vehicle having adjustable wheelbase dimensions. The preferred embodiment is a wheelchair (10) which is adjustable as to length and width "on-the-fly." Contracting the two side frames (22) effects a simultaneous retraction of the forward wheel struts (30). Thus, the length of the wheelchair (10) is reduced at the same time the width is reduced, and vice versa.
