CONSTITUTION: A rod mirror 5 is set above a carrying path 3 of capsules CU and CB. A virtual image of an object obtained via the mirror 5 is projected at a position higher than the real image of the object within an image pickup viewfield of an iTV camera. The picture signals received from the camera 1 are outputted from the upper left side through the lower right side. Thus the picture signals of the capsules reflected on the mirror 5 are first outputted. Then the positions of capsules are measured based on the position of the virtual image. Thus a picture processing circuit 2 can produce accurately a window corresponding to the joint between both capsules against the picture signals of the real image which are outputted thereafter. As a result, the reading mistakes are decreased and the checking efficiency is improved.
