CONSTITUTION: The tip of an inflow pipe 2 is connected to the lower end part of a cover pipe 3 surrounding a driving shaft 4 for raking blades for settled sludge. The shaft 4 is passed through the cover pipe 3 with a small gap therebetween so as to prevent mutual contact of the two, the upper end of the pipe 3 is opened in the proximity of the water surface in the tank and the feed water is discharged after passing through the inflow pipe 2 and the cover pipe 3 together with the sludge. A circular disc 5 for discharge is fixed to the shaft 4 at a position adequately spaced upward from the upper opened end of the cover pipe 3, so that the upward flow of sludge-containing water impinges upon the disc 5 and is converted into a horizontal or downward flow. Accordingly, since the sludge flow discharged horizontally in the vicinity of the water surface is diluted by the supernatant water and it becomes clear before reaching the peripheral part as overflow water, the sludge interface is not disturbed and channelling phenomena can not occur.
