In addition, a sediment scraper 8 of an endless chain system mounted with the multiple scraper plates 9 sliding on the surfaces of the respective plates 7 and the bottom wall 1a of the basin is moved at low speeds by means of a driving sprocket 12 and multiple guiding sprockets 11, 13. The sewage having entered the chamber 2 and having been aligned of its flow by the flow-aligning plates passes between the multiple receiving plates 7 to have sludge settled on the receiving plates. The sludge thus settled is gathered and settled into a sludge pit 6 by the scrape plate 9 of the scraper. Since the space between the receiving plates 7 is small, the rate of sedimentation is high and the capacity of sedimentation treatment is high, hence the equipment area is smaller.
