CONSTITUTION: Water being filtered 3 is guided from the lower inlet 2 of filter layer 4 in the filter cylinder 1, goes up through the filter layer 4 while dirty material is trapped by filter material 4, and cleaned water is discharged as treated water 5. The filter material 4 contg. dirty material is taken out of the bottom discharge outlet 6, is upwardly transported by air 7 through pipe 8 while separating dirty material. These enter the filter-material regeneration-separation cylinder 9 at the top of filter layer. Then, filter material rapidly falls due to difference in settling speed of filter material and dirty material and is flowed onto the filter layer while forming filter material-particle continous zone (c-c zone). The discharge level of dirty water 10 is lowered by ΔH from that of treated water 5, so that part of filtered water permeate the continous filter material zone in the regeneration-separation cylinder as filtered-permeated water 11 from the filtered layer, and the part of water is discharged with transferred dirty water as dirty discharge water 10.
