1. A foam scrubber for cleaning industrial gases and the like comprising foam generating means including a chamber having an inlet for gas and an outlet for foam, a plurality of grid layers in said chamber spaced in succession between said inlet and outlet and extending generally transverse to the gas flow between said inlet and outlet for dividing and redividing the flow into a plurality of separate streams, means for wetting a first of said grid layers with liquid foaming agent to generate a mass of moving liquid film, foam bubbles enveloping small discrete volumes of said gas therein as said gas moves between said inlet and outlet, each of said grid layers comprising a honeycomb-like structure formed of a plurality of thin elongated strips interconnected to form a plurality of separate flow passages, said strips having thin knife-like edges facing into the direction of gas flow for dividing the same into separate streams and having a width parallel of the direction of gas flow through said passages substantially greater than the thickness of said thin knife edge for wetting the gas moving through said passages with said liquid foaming agent to form said foam bubbles.
2. The foam scrubber of claim 1 wherein said honeycomb-like structures include spaced apart strips interconnected with transverse strips, all of said strips having their thin knife edges facing into the gas flowing from said inlet for dividing the flow into plurality streams.
3. The foam scrubber of claim 1 including wherein said thin strips have a width parallel of the direction of gas flow substantially greater than said thin knife edge thickness for wetting the gas passing through said grid means with said liquid foaming agent.
4. The foam scrubber of claim 2 wherein said transverse strips comprise elongaged zig-zag shaped members connected with facing surfaces of said spaced apart strips.
5. The foam scrubber of claim 4 wherein said spaced apart strips are curved and spaced outwardly of a common axis extended parallel of the direction of gas flow in said chamber.
6. The foam scrubber of claim 5 wherein said spaced apart strips comprise a plurality of concentric cylinders having successively greater radii, said zig-zag strip interconnected between each adjacent pair of concentric cylinder strips.
7. The foam scrubber of claim 2 including a plurality of said transverse grid layers spaced apart in parallel mounted downstream of said inlet of said chamber, said discrete passages of successive layers downstream staggered with respect to those upstream for successive division of said plural gas streams downstream of said inlet.
8. The foam scrubber of claim 1 wherein said strips comprise ribbons of metal having an edge thickness of approximately .001 inch to .005 inch and a width of approximately .10 inch to .25 inch.
9. The foam scrubber of claim 5 wherein said curved spaced apart strips comprise expanding spirals around said axis and said zig-zag member is secured to space said spiral strips apart.
10. The foam scrubber of claim 9 wherein said zig-zag member is welded to said spiral strips alternately.
