On the other hand, in case when a cable has been disconnected at a faulty point 15, the optical branching filter is switched in the device 11, and optical signals are simultaneously sent out in the opposite directions across the transmission line 20 from the device 11. As a result, the optical signal can be received by all the devices 12.
