CONSTITUTION:During a high speed rotation of a rotary member, vibrations of a bearing 12 therefor are increased when the critical speed is passed or if a whirling force is caused to occur. Oil films of lubricating oil are caused to appear in and fill gaps 18 and 19 which are formed respectively between the bottom 3 of an oil tank 1 and a movable disc 9 and between the movable disc 9 and an annular stationary plate 15. The damping force for preventing such vibrations of the bearing 12 arises from the viscosity of the oil films when they are subjected to shearing deformations by such vibrations.
