A watery waste fraction and an oily waste fraction are introduced into a reaction chamber as separate aerosol streams. Combustion air and auxiliary gaseous fuel are used as propellants to produce the aerosol streams. The injector is coaxially mounted on the end of a cylindrical reaction chamber. An annular step is provided at the entrance end of the reaction chamber a short distance downstream from the injector nozzle to shield the chamber surface by preventing wall attachment of the burner flames. 1. A combustion apparatus for incinerating pumpable nonhomogeneous liquid waste such as industrial waste containing water and combustible fluids, which apparatus comprises: refractory wall means defining a reaction chamber; a combustion chamber section at one end thereof; a liquid waste burner adjacent the entrance end of said combustion chamber section, said burner having an annular atomizing means and a second atomizing means coaxially mounted inside said annular atomizing means; means for separating said liquid waste into two fractions, one of said fractions having a higher fuel value than the other of said fractions; means for supplying said higher fuel value fraction to said annular atomizer; and means for supplying the other of said fractions to said second atomizer.
2. A combustion apparatus according to claim 1 wherein said combUstion chamber section comprises a truncated conical section having an included angle of less than 70* with its small end adjacent the tip of said burner, and the combination further includes a step having a planar downstream surface extending laterally between the large end of said conical section and said reaction chamber wall.
3. A combustion apparatus according to claim 1 wherein said annular atomizer includes an annular head adjacent the outlet end of an annular conduit, said head being spaced laterally from the sides of said conduit to form passages therebetween, an annular outlet in said head, an annular disk spaced above said head and extending from the inside wall of said conduit to adjacent its outside wall, means for directing a first high velocity gas stream across the open face of said groove, annular lip means extending from said groove in the direction of said stream, means for directing a second high velocity gas stream across the outer edge of said lip means at an abrupt angle with respect to said first gas stream.
4. A combustion apparatus according to claim 3 wherein said annular groove confronts said disk and said abrupt angle is approximately 90*.
5. A combustion apparatus according to claim 3 including a means for varying the relative momentum of the two gas streams whereby the resultant direction of the two streams is changed.
6. A combustion apparatus according to claim 1 further including an annular conduit for supplying a high momentum annular gas stream between said two atomizing means.
7. A combustion apparatus for incinerating a plurality of liquid wastes having different fuel values, said apparatus comprising: refractory wall means defining a generally cylindrical reaction chamber; a combustion section at one end thereof; and a liquid waste burner coaxially disposed adjacent the entrance end of said combustion chamber section, said burner having a central nozzle means for injecting a first waste liquid into said combustion chamber section, an annular nozzle means for producing an aerosol from a second waste liquid having a higher fuel value than said first waste liquid, said annular nozzle means includes an annular head member adjacent the outlet end of an annular conduit, said head being spaced laterally from the sides of said conduit to form passages therebetween, an annular outlet groove in said head, an annular disk spaced above said head and extending from the inside wall of said conduit to adjacent its outside wall, means for directing a first high velocity gas stream across the open face of said groove, and means for directing a second high velocity gas stream into said first gas stream at an abrupt angle.
8. A combustion apparatus according to claim 7 wherein said groove in said head member confronts said disk and said head member has a lip member extending from said groove in the direction of travel of said first high velocity gas stream passing thereover.
9. A combustion apparatus according to claim 7 further including an annular conduit for supplying under pressure an annular gas stream between said central nozzle means and said annular nozzle means.
10. A combustion apparatus according to claim 7 wherein said combustion chamber section comprises a truncated conical section having an included angle of less than 70* with its small end adjacent the top of said burner and the combination further includes an annular step having a planar downstream surface extending laterally between the large end of said conical section and said reaction chamber wall.
11. A combustion apparatus comprising wall means defining a reaction chamber having a diverging conical combustion chamber section opening into said reaction chamber, a burner means coaxially disposed adjacent the small end of said conical section, said burner having a central nozzle means for injecting a first liquid fuel into said combustion chamber section, a coaxially mounted annular nozzle means for producing an aerosol from a second liquiD fuel, said annular nozzle means includes an annular head member adjacent the outlet end of an annular conduit, said head member being spaced laterally from the sides of said conduit to form passages therebetween, an annular outlet groove in said head member for discharging said second liquid, an annular disk spaced above said head and extending from the inside wall of said conduit to adjacent its outside wall, means for directing a first high velocity gas stream across the open face of said groove, and means for directing a second high velocity gas stream into said first gas stream at an abrupt angle after said first gas stream has contacted the second fluid being discharged from said outlet groove.
12. A combustion apparatus according to claim 11 further including an annular conduit for supplying under pressure an annular gas stream between said central atomizing means and said annular nozzle means.
13. A reaction apparatus involving combustion, said apparatus comprising wall means defining a reaction chamber having a diverging conical combustion chamber section opening into said reaction chamber, a burner means coaxially disposed adjacent the small end of said conical section, said burner having a coaxially mounted annular nozzle means for producing an aerosol from a liquid fuel, said annular nozzle means includes an annular head member adjacent the outlet end of an annular conduit, said head being spaced from the sides of said conduit to form passages therebetween, an annular outlet groove in said head member for discharging said liquid fuel, an annular disk spaced above said head and extending from the inside wall of said conduit to adjacent its outside wall, means for directing a first high velocity gas stream across the open face of said groove, and means for directing a second high velocity gas stream into said first gas stream at an abrupt angle after said first gas stream has contacted said liquid fuel being discharged from said outlet groove, and a means for introducing a stream of reactant coaxially of said annular burner nozzle.
