CONSTITUTION: Since wave signals A and B from a rotary encoder RE are zero- voltage-sliced SL and an exclusive OR is taken. The sum of the signals A, B and the difference between them are separately determined. A signal selected by a multiplexer MPX or the like is applied to an interpolater INP. Counting is performed by an updown counter UDC which operates depending on the lead or delay in the signals A, B. An analogue signal is generated by a DA converter DA. Selected interpolated signals are added to one another by the interpolater INP to obtain a smooth signal having no discontinuous point.
