CONSTITUTION: A couple of electrodes are formed on the surface of the gas sensing part 1 and one-terminal sides of lead wires 5a and 5b are connected to both electrodes with silver paste materials 6 and 6. This sensing part 1 is put in a chamber 10 and the other-terminal sides of the lead wires 5a and 5b connected to a potentiostat (PS) 15. Further, a constant voltage is applied between both electrodes and the PS 15 measures variation in current value between both electrodes due to the oxidation-reduction reaction of gas to be inspected and records it on a recorder 16. The gas to be inspected is injected into the chamber 10 and a window 11 is formed opposite the film of the sensing part 1. Light emitted by a light source 7 is converged by a mirror 8 and a lens 9, is projected on the film through the window 11. Thus, the gas sensor which is inexpensive and stable for a long period and has high reliability is obtained.
