CONSTITUTION: The test electrode 2 which is preliminarily passivated to the specified surface condition and a counter electrode 4 are immersed in the objective aq. soln. 1 and potential is applied thereto from a potentiostat part 6 to maintain the prescribed potential with a potential control part 7. The pitting corrosion is generated in the test electrode 2 by the anode polarization and the area thereof increases with time. The time is measured in a time measuring part 9 and the anode current density after the specified time is measured in a current measuring part 8, then the current value is proportional to the area where the pitting corrosion part is generated. The tendency to the generation of the pitting corrosion possessed by the aq. soln. 1 is, therefore, discriminated by using the test piece passivated to the same surface condition, measuring the anode current density at the same potential and for the same elapsed time and comparing the result thereof with a reference value in a discriminating part 10.
