CONSTITUTION: the laser light from a laser 1 radiates the surface of a disc 7 through a condensing lens 6. When this lens 6 is finely vibrated at high frequencies in its optical axis direction through an oscillator 11, the radiation point of the disc 7 finely moves and the reflected light intensity from the surface of the disc 7 changes according to the condition of tracking, thus the modulation-reflected light corresponding to the frequency twice that of the fine vibrations is detected with a photo detector 8. Hence, if the AC fluctuation components outputted by the detector 8 are drawn out with a filter 10 and are phase detected with a phase detector 12 to which the transmission output of the oscillator 11 is applied, then the information on the track position deviation and direction is drawn out and the sure tracing of the track such as of the disc or other may be performed. Thereby, the need for track detecting beam or the like is eliminated.
