Four cathode bars 7 are disposed in the upper and lower parts of a web 5a of the steel material 5 and a cathode bar 10 is also disposed in the intermediate position of the web 5a in such a way that the distances between the respective bars 7 and the web 5a and flange 5b of the material 5 are made equal and that the distance between the bar 10 and the web 5a is made equal to the above-mentioned distance. Electricity is conducted at 40W150A/m
2 current density between the bars 7 and 10 with the material 5 as an anode, and the bentonite soln. is kept stirred by the air blown from a nozzle 12, whereby the bentonite is deposited on the whole part of the material 5 to a uniform thickness.
