CONSTITUTION: In the case of application to a discrimination problem of engine parts (14 categories), four representative categories are used as shown in figures A to D. The distance determined by relations between intra-category variance (between pictures to which disturbance is given out of pictures of the same object) and inter-category variance (between pictures of different objects) is used as the weight with respect to the frequency distribution stored in an accumulator array as the generalized Hough transformation output. This weight is used to select features which maximize the category separation capability including the hit rate to the reference table and the conversion error. Thus, true features are selected to improve the capability of the whole of the recognition system.
