CONSTITUTION: A plurality of piezoelectric elements 21 and one planer movable piece 22 are deposited and adhered integrally to form a selecting mechanism 25 for a letter selector. One of + side and - side electrodes of the element 21 is used as a common electrode 26, and the other electrode 27 is lead from the element as a lead terminal. A type wheel shaft 3 is rotated in a direction as designated by an arrow b, a type wheel 4 having types 12 on the outer periphery is rotated, and when the letter 12 desired to be typed is moved to the position to be typed, the element 21 is energized to be displaced in a direction as designated by an arrow c to move the end 24 engaged with a selected pawl 7 so as to disengage the pawl 7 therefrom. Then, the pawl 7 is rotated in a direction as designated by an arrow d by the tension of a spring 11 to engage it with a teeth 13 installed on the type wheel 4 to stop the type wheel 4 and to stop the letter 12 desired to be typed at the position to be typed.
