Scanning is applied to read a mark 42 at an optical read point P in this stage, and when the mark 42 is concealed by an original slip 2a, the original tip detection state is set and the original is read by read scanning of one line each. When the original 2a passes through the point P and the mark 42 appears, the detection of the end of the original is discriminated, several lines are read further for confirmation, the carrying is finished, the sheet is discharged at a fast feed and the transmission is terminated. Thus, the communication time at the transmission side is reduced and the recording paper is saved at the reception side.
