CONSTITUTION: A modified liquid polyisoprene type rubber having added N-hydroxyhydrocarbyl-maleimide is produced by adding maleic anhydride to a liquid polyisoprene type rubber, viscosity-average MW 15,000W100,000, vinyl addition content ≤25%, weight-average MW/number-average MW ≤4, (the amount of maleic anhydride is 0.35W10.5mol per monomer unit of the liquid isoprene type rubber) reacting the product with an aminoalcohol of the fomula: H
2 N-R-OH, wherein R is an alkyl, an aryl or an aralkyl, e.g., 1-aminopropane-2-o1, and dehydrating the resulting product. The modified rubber thus produced is excellent in curability and adhesion to metal, glass, concrete, etc., and has utility in sealants, adhesives and in asphalt modification and epoxy resin modification, etc.
