CONSTITUTION: The amount effective in preventing the formation of a slime and a biofilm, of iodoacetone compound of the formula [(n) is 1-3; (m) is 0-3], e.g. iodoacetone, 1,1-diiodoacetone, 1,3-diiodoacetone, is added to an aqueous medium such as water for a pulp mill, water for a paper mill, a swimming pool or water cooling device to inhibit growth and increase of microorganisms such as bacteria, fungi, algae, sulfate-reducing bacteria and iron bacteria in the aqueous medium. The compound of the formula is used as a single active toxicant i.e., an inhibitor. The above effective amount in the aqueous medium is 0.1-500ppm, preferably, 0.2-250ppm.
