CONSTITUTION: Penicillium MT-6001, belonging to the genus Penicillium and well sporulating on a culture medium containing coal as a sole carbon source and obtained as follows. The microorganism of this invention is collected from a suspended solid produced in a nitrogen gas reservoir, covered with liquid paraffin for cutting off air and strongly acidified with sulfuric acid for use in a Warburg manometer after allowing to stand for several years. The microorganism is isolated as follows. Part of the suspended solid containing the microorganism of this invention is collected by using a capillary and subcultured in a suspension of coal powder produced from MIIKE in 0.1 N sulfuric acid 5W6 times. The concentration of the suspension is 60g/ml and pH is 1.0. The cultivation temperature is 25°C and the cultivation period is about 30 days at one time. After subculturing in the above-mentioned suspension, plate cultivation is carried out in a 9K modified culture medium containing brown coal powder at 4.5pH and 25°C for 10 days to isolate the aimed microorganism from the formed colony.
