CONSTITUTION: Putrescible waste liquors are supplied through an inflow pipe 34 into a denitrification tank 13 and stirred with a stirring machine 32 and mixed with sludge in suspension so as to be denitrified. On a nitrification tank 14, the nitrogen components remaining in the liquors being treated are nitrified by the action of nitrification bacterium pellets 30 fluidized by aeration air from a diffusing device 28. By this treating method, the nitrification time in a nitrification zone cm be reduced and aeration in the nitrification tank can also be effected and, therefore, the size of a batch tank can be made smaller and the staying time of activated sludge can be shortened with an improved treating efficiency.
