CONSTITUTION: Squeezed sweet sorghum which is a liquid obtained by squeezing the leaves and stalks of sugar cane, is added to cane molasses or saccharified starch liquid. The amount of the squeezed sweet sorghum is ≥20% based on sucrose. A culture medium is prepared by using the obtained sugar solution as a carbon source and adding necessary inorganic salts, nitrogen source, vitamins, etc. to the solution, and an L-glutamic acid-producing bacterial strain such as Brevibacterium devaricatum ATCC14020, Brevibacterium flavum ATCC14067, etc. is cultured in the medium. The L-glutamic acid accumulated in the culture liquid is separated and purified to obtain L-glutamic acid in high yield.
