CONSTITUTION: The isopropylidene group of an octasaccharide compound of formula III obtained by the condensation of a compound of formula I with a compound of formula II is removed to produce a compound of formula IV. An octasaccharide acceptor of formula V obtained by the selective acetylation of the 6-position of the resulting compound is condensed with a tetrasaccharide donor of formula VI to produce a dodecasaccharide compound of formula VII. A compound of formula VIII obtained by the deacetylation of the dodecasaccharide compound is oxidized to derive a carboxylic acid of formula IX, and the protective group of the carboxylic acid is removed to obtain a dodecasaccharide oligogalacturonic acid of formula X.
