CONSTITUTION: A machine oil emulsion prepared by adding an emulsifier to a base consisting of a hydrocarbon oil having a sulfonation value ≤2vol% and a viscosity of 50W150 Saybolt Universal seconds (SUS), at 37.8°C. A nonionic or anionic surfactant may be cited as the emulsifier, and the amount is 1W10vol% based on the base. The hydrocarbon oil can be obtained by multistage hydrotreating of a crude lubricating oil fraction formed through topping and then vacuum distillation of crude oil. The resulting emulsion is useful as an agricultural and horticultural insecticide, fungicide and antiviral agent for plants, and mist spray (ULV) is possible due to the little phytotoxicity.
