65 Browsable database for biological use US10731875 2003-12-09 US20050149269A1 2005-07-07 Paul Thomas; Anish Kejariwal; Michael Champbell; Huaiyu Mi; Karen Diemer; Nan Guo; Istvan Ladunga; Betty Lazareva; Anushya Muruganujan; Steven Rabkin; Jody Vandergriff; Olivier Doremieux
The browsable database can allow for high-throughput analysis of protein sequences. One helpful feature may be a simplified ontology of protein function, which allows browsing of the database by biological functions. Biologist curators may have associated the ontology terms with Hidden Markov Models (HMMs), rather than individual sequences, so that they can be applied to additional sequences. To ensure accurate functional classification, HMMs may be constructed not only for families, but for curator-defined subfamilies, whenever family members have divergent functions or nomenclature. Multiple sequence alignments and phylogenetic trees, including curator-assigned information, can be available for each family. Various versions of the browsable database may include training sequences from all organisms in the GenBank non-redundant protein database, and the HMMs can be used to classify gene products across the entire genomes of human, and Drosophila melanogaster.
66 Defining a uniform subject classification system incorporating document management/records retention functions US09778029 2001-02-05 US20020010708A1 2002-01-24 Lowrie McIntosh
An interlingual mechanism to achieve uniformity when classifying anything by subject. Using generic terminology in an especially oriented hierarchical structure, it directs the user to a single classification. The system captures acronyms, vernacular and industry-specific, as well as foreign terms, into a thesaurus that can be modified and appended as classification needs change. The system nulllearnsnull as synonyms are added to nullfamily groupsnull, capturing differences in individual perception. Searching for an entity is quickly successful by reversing the process. To ask the system for the location of any item, a descriptive term is entered that the individual believes best describes the object in question. If this entry results in a nullhitnull, all information pertaining to the item is then available to query. If the entry term does not find a match in the generic structure, the system will search the synonym data base for a match. By arranging nullgeneric termsnull in a classified format, the system provides a single location for each record series and enables linking all relevant administrative document management functions and legal retention requirements. Selective and timely purging of documents is thus made possible, greatly facilitating the management of information for both current and prospective use.

GASTRIC RETENTIVE ORAL DOSAGE FORM WITH RESTRICTED DRUG RELEASE IN THE LOWER GASTROINTESTINAL TRACT TW091124776 2002-10-24 TWI324075B 2010-05-01 布瑞特 柏納; 珍妮 路易 漢
Controlled release oral dosage forms are provided for the continuous, sustained administration of a pharmacologically active agent to the upper gastrointestinal tract of a patient in whom the fed mode as been induced. The majority of the agent is delivered, on an extended release basis, to the stomach, duodenum and upper regions of the small intestine, with drug delivery in the lower gastrointestinal tract and colon substantially restricted. The dosage form comprises a matrix of a biocompatible, hydrophilic, erodible polymer with an active agent incorporated therein, wherein the polymer is one that both swells in the presence of water and gradually erodes over a time period of hours, with swelling and erosion commencing upon contact with gastric fluid, and drug release rate primarily controlled by erosion rate.

78 Intelligent network EP89308813.8 1989-08-31 EP0358408A2 1990-03-14 Azizi, Alireza; Pezzutti, David August

A system invention for an intelligent network architecture for implementing applications and information services, and providing services capabilities in a distributed fashion is disclosed. The concept behind the invention is of universal flexibility through architectural diversity to distribute service functionality anywhere within the network.

This invention to implements both services and applications. The term service refers to a control arrangement involving a collection of service capabilities which are bundled in a meaningful manner and which have been tariffed by the Network Service Provider. The term application refers to an untariffed control process which utilizes a collection of tariffed service capabilities implemented using Computer Inquiry-III ONA concepts. Applications can be implemented by the Network Service Provider, by customers, or by third party service providers.

In this invention, a programmable Application Management Control Layer (AMC) is introduced into the network architecture to implement the applications processes. This layer is comprised of two environments: the ASME and ASCE. The processes within this layer provide control of both network and non-network service elements to perform application-specific work. A network operating system provides network services, control, connectivity and communications. It binds the environments together to implement a distributed application. This network operating system is termed the Network Services Environment (NSE). Billing is provided in a flexible manner, in either a usage sensitive manner for the service element resources utilized or through fixed charges, or both.

The NSE is capable of providing resources and computing interworking services required to network the service elements together at session time. The term interwork relates to the capability of each protocol layer of the interface of one element to communicate with the corresponding layer of the interface of the connected element.

The NSE is provided with several types of broker functions. The first type of broker selects a service application provider based on criteria established by the user. The second type of broker, locates and reserves service elements in response to a request from the ASCE process which identifies its resource needs. Combined with Open Network Architecture principles, this network design supports the needs of both third party service providers and network service providers. The third type of broker is automatically invoked by the intelligent network to provide interworking services to network together all required resources at run time.

When combined with expert systems technology, the network can be arranged to utilise learning system technology to improve the quality of service over time with experience.

The advantage of this invention is that it implements a virtual network providing enriched services and applications by networking multiple service elements under control of an applications control process. Network services and service capabilities support the intelligent network described herein.
