41 Scientist domain-centric user interface and enabling “soft” translation US11480214 2006-06-30 US07356418B2 2008-04-08 Sean L. Seymour
The scientist domain-centric user interface system may prompt the user to supply scientist-centric information expressed utilizing terminology of a scientific domain, such as biology or analytical chemistry. A translation system then generates control parameters to control the search algorithm, thus relieving the user from having to learn how select and configure the algorithm control parameters directly.
42 A BROWSABLE DATABASE FOR BIOLOGICAL USE PCT/US0338935 2003-12-09 WO2004053769A3 2005-07-21 THOMAS PAUL D; KEJARIWAL ANISH; CAMPBELL MICHAEL J; MI HUAIYA; DIEMER KAREN; GUO NAN; LADUNGA ISTVAN; LAZAREVA BETTY; MURUGANUJAN ANUSHYA; RABKIN STEVEN; VANDERGRIFF JODY; DOREMIEUX OLIVER
The browsable database can allow for high-throughput analysis of protein sequences. One helpful feature may be a simplified ontology of protein function, which allows browsing of the database by biological functions. Biologist curators may have associated the ontology terms with Hidden Markov Models (HMMs), rather than individual sequences, so that they can be applied to additional sequences. To ensure accurate functional classification, HMMs may be constructed not only for families, but for curator-defined subfamilies, whenever family members have divergent functions or nomenclature. Multiple sequence alignments and phylogenetic trees, including curator-assigned information, can be available for each family. Various versions of the browsable database may include training sequences from all organisms in the GenBank non-redundant protein database, and the HMMs can be used to classify gene products across the entire genomes of human, and Drosophila melanogaster.

The method also comprises the fourth step of calculating a maximum error, the fifth step of determining a maximum iteration, the sixth step of assuming the number of hidden layers, the seventh step of assuming an initial value of the activation function, the learning constant and the momentum term, the eight step of performing the learning and the ninth step of testing.
47 Device for mastering correct swing of golf club JP20828395 1995-07-12 JPH0924131A 1997-01-28 NISHIWAKI KIYOHISA
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To master the knack of swinging a golf club most effectively only with the practice of swinging without hitting a ball even in a narrow area by designing this device in such a way that the swinging action of a golf club is analyzed in terms of the simulated flying direction of a golf ball and a planar direction, with the help of an optical sensory and a trace lamp is turned ON to show the orbit. SOLUTION: Two optical sensors 12 are embedded at a point to which light is projected when a player addresses on an address plate 11, and at the same time, an optical sensor 12 is buried before and after a mark on a golf ball flying direction line 13 and a planar direction line 14. In addition, a lamp 7 corresponding to each sensor 12 is buried at a surrounding area near these sensors 12. In this case, a spot where a light beam arrives passing through a hole formed on the bottom surface of a club head 4 is set to coincide with a spot where the optical sensor 12 is embedded in such a manner that the two lamps 7 inset in the club head 4 are lighted when the player addresses with an initiation club. In addition, when the player swings the club and finishes his ball hitting action, it is recognized that the head face is fronted and the ball is hit in the correct direction, if all the lamps 7 of the optical sensors 12 in two rows are turned ON.

55 Silver halide photographic sensitive material and its processing method JP23692595 1995-09-14 JPH0980664A 1997-03-28 SANPEI TAKESHI; NAKAJIMA AKIHISA
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce the sensitivity change or the dot quality deterioration produced with the lapse of time, even if doing the processing with the reduction in the replenishment quantity of developer, and eliminate the increase in fogging by providing a silver halide emulsion layer containing a specified silver halide grain on a film support body. SOLUTION: Silver halide emulsion layers at least one of which contains a silver halide grain having an average grain size less than 0.1μm is provided on a film base body mainly containing syndiotactic polystyrene. The halogen composition of the silver halide in the used silver halide emulsion is not particularly limited, and silver chloride, silver chloride bromide, silver bromide, silver iodide bromide, and silver chloride iodide bromide are used. The average grain size is a term which is generally used by experts in the field of photographic science and can be easily understood thereby, Further, the particle grain means a grain diameter when the grain is spherical or approximate to sphere. When the grain is cubic, it is converted into sphere to take its diameter as the grain size.

58 DISTILLATION AND USE OF HETEROGENEOUS HEALTH DATA US12510130 2009-07-27 US20110022412A1 2011-01-27 Wyatt D. Jackson; Annie Lamour; Eugene Lee
Health data may be received in various forms from various sources, and rules may be applied to perform reasoning on the data. In one example, health data from a variety of sources is distilled into a particular representation. Facts (such as conditions with which the patient has been diagnosed, medications that the patient is taking, etc.) are distilled into a particular medical vocabulary. These facts may then be exposed to the expert system through an object model, which applies rules to determine which alerts to issue to a patient. The alerts may then be communicated to the patient. Raw health data may be received in one form, and the raw data may be expressed in one of several standard medical terminologies, so that expert systems that expect to use a particular terminology can perform reasoning on the facts.

Embodiments of a computer implemented method of generating a variable structure regression model. The method includes receiving data input including historical data, an output variable, a plurality of input variables; establishing a set of linguistic rules for the plurality of input variables; establishing variable structure regression equations using the set of linguistic rules, the output variable, the input variables, and the historical data; optimizing membership functions and regression coefficients of the variable structure regression equations; and generating a variable structure regression model from the optimized membership functions, the regression coefficients, and the variable structure regression equations. The exact mathematical structure of these linguistic terms and the number of terms are established simultaneously, thereby freeing the end user from trial and error time-consuming studies. Meanwhile, the knowledge of domain experts can be preserved, as qualitative expert knowledge may be combined with quantitative data.
