PURPOSE: cDNA clone is isolated by the incompatibility interaction of Capsicum annuum and pathogen. cDNA can express ICC13(incompatible Capsicum annuum -Colletotrichum gloeosporioides interactions) protein involved in the protection of plant from pathogen. CONSTITUTION: cDNA library screening and m RNA differential display method are applied to isolate icc13 gene based on incompatibility interaction of Capsicum annuum and Colletotrichum gloeosporioides. The isolated clone, 1217 bp long, includes 21 bp of 5' untranslated region and 212 bp of 3' untranslated region including polyA tail. One open reading frame, having 328 amino acids, is found. The estimated molecular weight of protein is 36.4 kDa. ICC13 protein has potential catalytic triads, -His-Gly-Gly-Gly-Phe- (-HGGGF-) andmotif found in esterase and lipase of bacteria and mammalian, and -Gly-Ser-Ser-Cyc-Gly- (-GSSCG-) motif found in serine hydrolase. These sequence motifs suggested that ICC13 protein belongs to lipase and esterase family. RNA blotting experiment reveals that icc13 gene is induced by incompatibility interaction of plant and pathogen. icc13 gene is involved in the protection mechanism of plant to pathogen or damage and ripening of seed.

PURPOSE: Nontoxic bio-pesticides exterminating plant pathogen are provided which replace chemical pesticides used for the diseases of grass of golf course and such like. CONSTITUTION: Antagonist microorganisms are isolated from soil of grass field. Fungi such as Trichoderma harzianum, Aspergillus niger and Penicillium frequentans (KCTC 0721BP) are identified and bacteria such as Bacillus subtilis, Pseudomonas fluorescenct and Athrobacter terrengens (KCTC 0720BP) are also identified. Fungi are preserved in PDA plate at 4°C and transferred at every 2 months. Long term stock is preserved in Silica gel and 7% of skim milk at desiccator. Mass culture of fungi is tried in the liquid medium consisted of yeast peptone, sodium acetate, glucose and antifoaming agent or YMB, or solid medium consisted of rice bran, wheat bran and powder of cow skin. Nutrient agar is used to preserve bacteria and transferred at every 1 month. Glycerol stock is used for long term stock of bacteria. After the cultivation, broth is diluted with water about 100 times and sprayed 7-10 times from spring to fall. The amount of chemical pesticide used is decreased about 80%.

PURPOSE: To provide an ideal antimicrobial against plant disease-causative microorganisms comprising an extract from Houttuynia cordata and overcoming the problems such as chemical injury by conventional agrochemicals and their pollutions. CONSTITUTION: The subterranean stems of Houttuynia cordata are immersed in 5% ethanol prepared by dilution of 35% ethanol for fruit liqueurs to extract the antifungal substances. The extract is used to control the strawberry powdery mildew whereby it has been confirmed to have antifungal activity. The antifungal can readily be mass-produced from domestic resource and can repetitively be applied and shows extremely high safety because it can inhibits the disease for a long period of time without complete eradication of the disease- causative microorganism.
