A ground effect vehicle has a fuselage (1) for operation in water. Wings (5) curve downwardly from each side of the fuselage. In plan the wings are triangular with leading edges jutting at right angles to the fuselage. In front elevation the wings are attached high on the fuselage and exhibit a compound downward curve to tips at the level of the bottom of the fuselage. The angle of attack of each wing increases gradually from the root area to a maximum along the wing and then decreases towards the wing tip. The high angle of attack at mid-wing gives high lift at low speeds but the increase in drag occasioned thereby does not become significant until air speeds over 180 knots. This makes for a fail-safe design as the wing will not fly out of ground effect irrespective of the installed horsepower. The diverging tail fins (19, 20) minimise banking on turns thus maintaining the air cushion under the outboard wing.

Besides the aforementioned basic improvement, various further improvements are proposed such as the provision of spoilers in association with the top plate, a front end cover disposed under the upwardly convex surface portion so that it can adjust an area of an opening in front of the plane body, a thrust switching damper contained in the air exhaust duct, an airflow direction control damper contained in the air exhaust duct, a vertical tail having a rudder assembled therein and disposed at the rear end of the top plate, an intake duct additionally associated with the blower, floats associated with the end plates, or the like.
