摘要	A gantry segmented support structure (10, 12) is provided with overlapping wall plates (e.g. 32A-32G, 102A-102F) that can include a damping material (52) disposed therebetween. The structure forms a tube assembly, which when configured with the damping material (52) is adapted to dampen forces resulting from performing operations on a workpiece. In particular, the damping prevents unwanted oscillatory displacement of the segmented support structure (10, 12). The overlapping wall plates (e.g. 32A-32G, 102A-102F) allow a housing created thereby to be attached to a rigid plate (e.g. 30, 112) without including strain in the rigid plate (e.g. 30, 112) that can deform the rigid plate (e.g. 30, 112). This construction eliminates manufacturing of bulky weldments, which thereby reduces costs. A method of assembly and a fixture (320) are also provided.
