162 | CUSHION BLADDER | EP03747370 | 2003-05-02 | EP1549180A4 | 2006-06-14 | SMITH PETER |
A bladder, which in one of its possible forms may be used in or as a cushion, is disclosed. The bladder has first and second conjoined, layered portions (10 and 11) which are formed from a fluid impervious plastics sheet material. The first portion (10) of the bladder is formed with compartments (16 to 19) which extend toward a peripheral region of the bladder and they are arranged to be charged with a fluid, typically air. The second portion (11) of the bladder is joined to the first portion (10) of the bladder over a central region (20) of the first portion that is not charged with the fluid but from which the fluid-receiving compartments (16 to 19) extend. The second portion (11) of the bladder is arranged independently of the first portion (10) to be charged throughout its full extent with the fluid. When the bladder is readied for use, the fluid-receiving compartments (16 to 19) of the first portion (10) of the bladder are charged to a required extend with fluid, as is the entire second portion (11) of the bladder. As a consequence, the first portion (10) of the bladder contributes to the disposition of the second portion (11) of the bladder, at least in the areas of contact between the second portion and the fluid-receiving compartments (16 to 19) of the first portion.

A collapsible enclosure for restraining a patient to an area about a bed comprises a frame (110) having a horizontal eave portion (111), a horizontal base portion (113) opposing the horizontal eave portion, and at least two vertical members (118) upstanding from the horizontal base portion for supporting the horizontal eave portion. The frame collapses as an integral unit for storage and transfer. A net assembly secured to the frame defines an area about a bed such that a patient is allowed to move freely within the area.
164 | SAFETY EQUIPMENT FOR BEDS | EP00940516.8 | 2000-06-12 | EP1408796A2 | 2004-04-21 | WILKINSON, Michael Anthony |
Safety equipment for a bed includes sheeting (14) arranged to be securable to a mattress (12) and an inflatable wall structure (10) secured to the sheeting. The inflatable wall structure is arranged so as to define an upstanding wall which, in use, in an inflated condition, serves as a barrier to someone falling out of bed and as a cushion which protects an occupant of the bed from injuring themselves against the structure of the bed. The wall structure may include lengths arranged to be collapsable along lines transverse to the length to permit the wall to concertina to adopt the profile of a profiling bed.

166 | TURNING RESTRAINING DEVICE | EP97947237.0 | 1997-11-28 | EP1009261A1 | 2000-06-21 | Ek, Robert |
A restraining device includes an article of dress (3) or a harness, which is put on or fastened around at least one part of the body. Two parts (4, 5) of a strap of about the same length extend from the backside of the article of dress (3) or the harness and outwards to the two sides (9) of the bed. In order to prevent a person being in bed from turning his body in one of the other directions from a position lying on the stomach to a position lying on the back, said strap parts (4, 5) are attached along the entire backside of the article of dress (3) or harness or are attached to the sides (6) of the article of dress (3) or harness. The free ends (7, 8) of the strap parts (4, 5) are extended from the sides of the article of dress/harness to the closest side (9) of the bed (1) and are attachable to this side (9), whereat the length of the two strap parts (4, 5) can be adjusted by means of a buckle (11) or the like so that the strap parts (4, 5) are completely straightened when the person has turned his body not more than about 90°.

The bed consists of a frame, mattress platform and removable bed guard assembly. The bed guard assembly includes a main support which at the lower end has a mounting for connection to the bed, a guard permanently fixed to the main support and a locking mechanism for fixing the main support in relation to the bed. The locking mechanism is located inside the guard assembly and includes a sleeve and blocking element which moves between two positions. In one position the blocking element engages in the sleeve, and in the second position the blocking element is released from the sleeve, where in one of these positions it allows the movement of the main support in relation to the sleeve, and in the second of these positions it prevents the movement of the main support in relation to the sleeve, the movement of the blocking element of the locking mechanism is controlled by the actuator.

A bed frame with a support structure (20) has a rigid structural frame for carrying an articulating structure (18) for an adjustable bed. The support structure extends substantially to the extents of the articulating structure in an unarticulated position and has a padded bolster (26). The bolster incorporates a mounting support (28) attached to the structural frame and a resilient foam bumper (30) received on the mounting support with a fabric covering surrounding the bumper and fastened to the mounting support. The articulating structure includes rigid planar supports having edges with a surrounding resilient foam layer having a fabric covering secured to the planar support. The bumper and foam layer are resilient to deform upon contact with an intruding appendage inserted between them. For an exemplary embodiment, an electrical outlet is mounted in a housing which penetrates the support frame, mounting support and bumper.

The present invention relates to a roll over restraint system for a vehicle. The roll over restraint system includes a mattress, restraint belt section, and one or more activation sensors. The restraint belt section extends laterally across the mattress. The one or more activation sensors detect the occurrence of at least one of a vehicle declaration threshold, a vehicle attitude change threshold, or a vehicle crash and in response thereto generate a signal. The signal results in at least one pre-tensioning devices increasing the tension applied to the restraint belt section and/or inflation of the restraint belt section.
