A patient incline device includes a base member, an inflatable incline ramp located on an upper surface of the base member, an incline ramp adapted to support a patient such that the patient's upper torso is elevated with respect to the base member, an inflatable head support pillow and a wedge-shaped inflatable spinal support air chamber located on the incline ramp and angling upward in a direction away from the incline ramp, and aligned with a centerline of the incline ramp, wherein the peak end of the wedge extends to about the region of the patient's lumbar curve so that the buttocks are not raised upon inflation. The wedge-shaped spinal support chamber may also include a pop-up air chamber having internal air vents to the spinal support chamber such that when the spinal support chamber inflates, the pop-up chamber rises as pressure accumulates and lifts a thoracic curve portion of the patient's spine. An accessory lift device is provided for use in situations where raising the patient's buttocks and pelvis is wanted. The accessory is an inflatable air chamber having side lobes adapted to lie along each lateral side of the inflatable pad base and a seat portion that crosses transversely over the inflatable base pad beneath the patient's buttocks.

73 BACK SUPPORT SYSTEM EP04752000.2 2004-05-12 EP1624777A2 2006-02-15 DAVIS, Edmund, Scott
There is provided a back support system (10) of three foam members (12, 22, 32) serving as a piece of recreational or therapeutic furniture. The three foam support members members (12, 22, 32) each have a generally rectangular shape when viewed from above and a triangular shaped when viewed from their sides and vary in size. The unique triangular shape of each of the three members members (12, 22, 32) enables the pieces to be assembled in a variety of positions depending upon the desires of the user. For example, one of the triangular pieces (12) may be positioned to fit underneath the back and head area of the user while the second member (22) may be placed under the legs of the user to lift the knee area and the third and smallest member (32) may be placed under the lower leg area to keep the feet in an elevated position. Each cushion is made of a resilient foam polymeric material that is covered with a protective fabric. When positioning the members, the members members (12, 22, 32) may be held in place by fabric hinges (40) having various widths and zippers incorporated therein to allow the three pieces members (12, 22, 32) to be used separately or together. When the three members members (12, 22, 32) are folded to nest together, a unitary object is formed for easy shipment or storage.
