A pillow (or several pillows depending upon need/size configuration) having unique shapes for placing between an individual's back, head, backside, legs, arms (or any combination thereof) and the floor, ground, bed, table or other surface to provide anatomical support as opposed to simply providing cushioning between the body on the underlying surface. When the individual is lying on his or her back, the pillow provides for proper alignment of the body to relieve pressure on joints, nerves, muscles and skin. Its unique posturing permits the body to relax and rest more comfortably and also potentially increase blood flow and nerve transmission throughout the body or through specific areas of the body. It is beneficial to those who suffer from a variety of shoulder, neck, back, hip, and other problems, arthritis and sports related injuries and fatigue in addition to those who are convalescent, bedridden, computer operators (or other jobs with periodic sitting), overhead throwers, data entry personnel and anyone who uses their shoulder, back, neck, hips and arms for an extended period of time. |

An upholstered seat system for use on legless leisure chairs. The seat system has features that make it particularly useful on legless leisure chairs having cushioned backrests. The seat system has a seat cushion made of an upholstery fabric filled with a soft resilient material, and further having a flap extending from the back of the seat cushion for attachment to the front lower cross member of a legless leisure chair. The flap provides a flexible means of attaching the seat cushion to the backrest that enables the seat cushion to be folded for storage or transport. The seat system also provides two lower leg support options. One option is to have a two piece seat system including the seat cushion and an ottoman cushion. The other option is to extend the seat cushion to provide continuous support from a user's buttocks to the user's heels. The ottoman cushion can be made with a slip resistant underside. Also disclosed is how the seat system can be made with a multi-layer foam filling, or other fillings. |

A number of generally wedge shaped backrests and legless leisure chairs for sitting on the floor or on a bed, which orient the user's upper back at a higher angle than the user's lower back. These are ideally suited for people who want to be in a reclining type position, but yet want to do something like watch television. The backrests/leisure chairs disclosed use a support foundation (42 and 46). The backrests/leisure chairs described also have a way of maintaining the lumbar region of the user's back in a relatively natural lordotic curve, some through a high firmness lumbar support member (28) on the support foundation (42 and 46) placed in a hollow in the back of the main cushion (26), and others through making a convex contour on the lower portion of the backrest/leisure chair. All of the leisure chairs for sitting on the floor have a seat cushion (34) to prevent the user from slipping down out of place and these chairs can also have a pillow (32) for a headrest. Also disclosed are a number of seat cushion and legrest alternatives (34) for the leisure chairs including folding seat cushions and a two piece seat and legrest cushion system. |

By providing position control means cooperatively associated with a support pad with said control means being constructed for arcuately moving the support pad in response to activation by the user, with the position control means and pad peripherally surrounded by a cover, a unique, portable, self-contained, unitary, movably adjustable support assembly is attained whereby individuals are able to position the support pad in any desired location or on any surface while also being able to automatically raise and/or lower the support pad to any position for comfort and support. In the preferred embodiment, the movably adjustable support assembly is constructed with expandable shroud means integrally connected with the cover in association with the position control means for expanding in response to the arcuate movement of the position control means while being automatically retracted into a folded configuration when the control means are returned to its original position. In addition, the present invention incorporates a single air flow control assembly which is capable of directly controlling two separate and independent movably adjustable support assemblies, each of which employ separate control means. In this way, individuals with queen or king sized beds are able to employ two separate and independent movably adjustable support assemblies on the single bed for separate and independent control, while employing a single air flow control assembly. |

These are ideally suited for people who want to be in a reclining type position, but yet want to do something like watch television. Most of the backrests/leisure chairs described also have a way of maintaining the lumbar region of the user's back in a relatively natural lordotic curve, some through a lumbar support member (28), and others through making a convex contour on the lower portion of the backrest/leisure chair. All of the leisure chairs for sitting on the floor have a seat cushion (34) to prevent the user from slipping down out of place and most have a pillow (32) for a headrest. A number of ways of making a variety of types and styles of backrests/leisure chairs are disclosed including adjustable metal frames and wood frames, dual position chairs, chairs using a firm support foundation (42 and 46), chairs having armrests (36), and outdoor type styles. Also disclosed are methods for providing lumbar supports in cushions suitable for these chairs and others. One method involves putting a hollow in the back of the main cushion (26) and filling it with a high firmness support member (28). Another method comprises piercing a previously manufactured cushion (86) with injecting needles (84) to inject a firming solution into the cushion (86) to provide the internal lumbar support (88). |

The leg separating apparatus (10) is a bifurcated relatively deformable and resilient foam or plastic structure for placement on the inner surface of a patient's leg. The apparatus provides predetermined leg separation to alleviate the stress placed upon the spine and lower back of a patient when the patient is in a lying position. A centrally located knee shroud (12) provides a knee bone centering portion (20) for an opposing knee. Traverse support members (22, 36) extend from each side of the knee shroud to distribute the associated leg weight along the length of the leg. Straps (50) secure the support members (22, 36) to the leg. Each support member includes an accordion segmented portion (34, 46) allowing the leg separating structure to bend during the sleeping hours and eliminates the need for removal for short walks. An alternative embodiment set forth a shell structure with a rotatable knee shroud. |
