41 Rocker-type lump breaker US425558 1989-10-23 US4949908A 1990-08-21 Helmut Habicht
A rocker-type lump breaker for breaking oversized or lumped granular materials into acceptable sizes. The lump breaker is mounted interior of a hopper. This lump breaker comprises a perforate deck member, a plurality of rocker arms carried on a oscillating or rocking shaft carried by said deck member, and a means exterior of said hopper for providing said rocking motion to said shaft. The rocker arms are adapted to co-act with apertures provided in said deck plate to break the lumped material into acceptable sizes. The acceptable sized material is passed through the deck member. The rocking motion of the shaft is controlled to produce a gap between the ends of each rocker arm and the deck member.
42 Apparatus for loosening frozen coal in hopper cars US869614 1978-01-16 US4221521A 1980-09-09 George B. Kirwan
Frozen lumps of coal in conventional hopper cars are loosened by lowering an assembly of vertically oriented probe elements into the car while simultaneously vibrating the assembly. The vibratory structure is mounted on a gantry arrangement which also supports a supplemental probe arrangement utilizing impact forces to loosen coal in hopper cars having interiors different from those of the cars operated on by the vibratory arrangement.

A bin sweep auger unplugging system for unplugging a central unloading sump in a storage bin. The bin sweep auger unplugging system generally includes an auger having a driven shaft with auger fighting, a drive unit having a drive shaft, and a clutch connected between the drive shaft and the driven shaft. The clutch selectively transfers the rotation of the drive shaft to the driven shaft of the auger. The drive shaft includes a clump breakup component that breaks up the clump of granular material above the unloading sump when the drive shaft is rotated. The clutch is disengaged when breaking up a clump of granular material to prevent the rotation of the auger.
49 Particulate disaggregating method and apparatus US15258458 2016-09-07 US09617067B2 2017-04-11 Michael L. Anderson
A method and means for disaggregating aggregated particulate. A housing contains a rotational motor and a vibrating motor also has an auger drivingly linked to the rotational motor. Legs extend from the housing in the same direction as the auger and the device rests upon the aggregated particulate. Upon driving the rotational motor, the auger bores through the aggregated particulate, thereby disaggregating particulate. The vibrating motor is also driven to vibrate and further disaggregate the particulate. A plate device with a vibrating motor attached is also used to disaggregate the particulate, such as by teeth extending from the bottom of the plate that are driven into the aggregate by the weight of the plate when vibrated.
50 Protector for a discharge sump of a storage bin US13548313 2012-07-13 US09156608B1 2015-10-13 Roger Skaife
A sump protector is a multi-tiered structure placed over a discharge sump at the bottom of a storage bin to enhance the flow of materials to the discharge sump while reducing discharge sump blockage. An upper segment includes a bracket for breaking apart clumped materials in the storage bin encountered by materials falling or flowing onto the sump protector from above. A lower segment situated below the upper segment is preferably securable to the floor of a storage bin. The sump protector includes several apertures that can limit the size of materials able to enter the sump protector (and reach the discharge sump). Even if some of the apertures become clogged, other apertures are available to allow materials to continue to flow to the discharge sump. A bottom panel of the lower segment may lack apertures so as to limit the forces exerted on a discharge sump control gate.
51 Bulk material handling system with a sloughing wall US878248 1997-06-16 US6129299A 2000-10-10 Daniel W. Jackson; Robertus Philipus Lammers
A reciprocating slat conveyor (22) conveys a body of bulk material (16) to the outlet end (21) of a container (12). The body of bulk material (16) is moved against a sloughing wall (10). The sloughing wall (10) includes a plurality of slats (40) that are mounted for generally up and down reciprocation. The slats (40) carry bulk material engaging teeth (60, 62). In response to the generally up and down movement of the slats (40) the teeth (60, 62) break loose the bulk material (16). The loosened bulk material falls down onto a secondary conveyor (14) which leads it away from the container (12).
52 Apparatus and method for conveying material US892429 1986-08-04 US4787502A 1988-11-29 James F. Sullivan; Jimmy D. White
A vibrating conveyor for moving agglutinous particulate materials that pack into large accumulations which adhere to its surface, eventually blocking the conveyor pan, is cleared of such accumulations by placing a flexible hose along its bottom. A flexible sheet lines the conveyor pan on top of the hose. The hose is inflated periodically so as to lift the sheet and thus break up the packed accumulations of material.
53 Device for emptying containers US29130672 1972-09-22 US3814270A 1974-06-04 MURPHY R
An unloading bin having an open top and front is rotatably supported about its center on a frame above an open topped hopper. The bin is rotatable about a horizontal axis centered with respect to the bin at selected rates from a ''''top-up'''' position to an inverted ''''bottom-up'''' position. An open-topped parts container is positionable in the bin through the open front and tilted rearwardly to empty the parts into the hopper by gradual rotation of the bin. Rods across the top of the bin prevent the container from falling out. In a preferred arrangement, the hopper is positioned above a conveyor which receives and removes the parts as they are fed through the hopper. A sensor associated with the conveyor controls the rate of tilt of the bin to control the rate of emptying.
