112 | Thread protector for use on pin end of oilfield tubulars | US10689913 | 2003-10-21 | US20050081933A1 | 2005-04-21 | Burney Latiolais; Johnny Elkins; Keith Lutgring; John Saichuk; Braxton Moody; Samuel Hawkins |
A cylindrical ring sized to slide over the box end of an oilfield tubular having a given external diameter, has a shoulder at one its ends and a sidewall along its length. The sidewall has a circumferential groove about its interior surface housing a band which can be made tight against the exterior surface of the oilfield tubular by a latch, or other latch means accessible through a slot in the sidewall, and which becomes even tighter if the tubular attempts to escape from the band. In a first orientation, the cylindrical ring is used as a load ring. By turning the cylindrical ring upside down, the cylindrical ring is used as a thread protector for the pin end of the tubular.
113 | Casing thread protector | US580961 | 1996-04-12 | US5819805A | 1998-10-13 | Donald E. Mosing; Charles Sodha |
A new and improved casing thread protector that has a toroidal body of elastomer with a bore to accept a pipe end, thread engagement pads, and a metal band and clamp arrangement extending around its periphery. The bore accepts the end of a pipe with threads to be protected when the thread engagement pads are allowed a certain degree of movement due to the open position of the clamp, which pads subsequently grip the pipe within the bore when the clamp is closed. The pads, which are replaceable, come into contact with the tubular inserted in the bore when the clamp is in the closed position, isolating the tubular good from the body of the improved device and creating greater pressure on the contact points of the threads of the tubular good which increases the force required to dislodge the improved protector from the threads. The band and clamp arrangement may be placed in an open peripheral groove which creates an optional arcuate tunnel partially encircling the outer face of the body member of the new and improved casing thread protector.

A multiple layer wraparound sleeve having a heat shrinkable backing layer and at least one functional layer has the functional layer as a discrete sheet which is connected to one end of the backing layer, and is of at least sufficient length that, when the sleeve is wrapped around the pipe or other substrate at least twice, the functional layer sheet wraps around the substrate first with its ends overlapping and the backing layer wraps around the functional layer sheet with its ends overlapping. This allows wrappings of reduced thickness to be employed without problems of voids occurring between the functional layer and the substrate.

117 | Stacking pipe protector | US469257 | 1990-01-24 | US5020676A | 1991-06-04 | Glenn E. McFarland |
A two-part, ring-like, hook-on protector device provides a secure but easily removable mounting at spaced locations along heavy pipe or casing members that are normally stacked in a horizontal lengthwise extending relation for storage and shipment to oil and gas well drilling and operating locations. The device, of two-part, pivoted together construction and circular shape, is formed of tough elastomer material whose parts are of complementary interfitting construction devised to assure a substantially equally spaced, stacked relation between adjacent pipe members to both protect the members along their lengths as well as any threaded ends and collars. It has a maximum unitized strength and a space-retaining resistance to deformation with respect to radially applied forces thereon when several devices are mounted in a lengthwise spaced relation along a pipe member that is in a stacked relation with adjacent members. It employs two solid, stress-absorbing pivoted-together, semicircular pairs, halves or arms. At least one pair of adjacent ends of its arm parts are pivotally connected together and the other pair of adjacent ends have a separable connection to permit the parts to be opened as well as closed for easy latching-on mounting and unlatched removal from pipe members that are being stacked for storage and those that are being removed for usage.

The interior of the first tubular section communicates and is aligned with the interior of the second tubular section. The collar has a greater outer diameter than the second tubular section. The second tubular section has identification information integrally imprinted onto the exterior surface. The collar has a flat chordal edge along its outer diameter. The identification information is printed adjacent to this flat chordal edge. The cap closure comprises a cap threadedly connected to a threaded portion of a cylindrical section extending from the collar. A compressible insert is contained and freely movable within the interior of the first tubular section.
120 | System for protecting machine threads | US894705 | 1986-08-07 | US4662402A | 1987-05-05 | Wilfried Dreyfuss; Thomas E. Remp, Jr.; Kurt Muller |
System for protecting machine parts, such as threads, from physical and chemical damage. The parts to be protected are cleaned, coated with a separating agent, and a mold is placed around them. A protective material is inserted in the interspace between the mold and pipe end. The protective material forms a tough, protective jacket. If desired, the mold can later be removed by means of a tear-open element or integrated weak spots. For the protection of pipe interiors, plastic material can be pressed into the end of the pipe such that it seals against the inside lining of the pipe. |
