235 Automatic umbrella US13960806 2013-08-07 US09144276B2 2015-09-29 Su-Chen Ni
The automatic umbrella has an improved tube unit which contains a first tube, a second tube, and a third tube telescoping together. An inner plug is positioned inside the second tube. A reinforcing tube is housed in the second tube and capable of moving upward through the inner plug. The main spring has its top end against the reinforcing tube, and its bottom end in a lower part of the first tube. The secondary spring is inside the third tube with a top end against the inner plug of the top nest and a bottom end against the inner plug of the second tube. The tube unit enjoys enhanced resilience when the automatic umbrella is opened. When the umbrella is closed, two sets of springs are compressed at separate instants and their resilience cancels each other indirectly. The strength to close the umbrella is therefore reduced.

237 Guy structure for an automatic unfolding and folding umbrella US13042443 2011-03-07 US08800576B2 2014-08-12 Shumin Chang
A guy structure for an automatic unfolding and folding umbrella is provided. The guy structure includes two or more guys: One guy is a lower nest guy, provided at least between a middle rod and a lower nest; the other is an unfolding guy, provided at least between the middle rod and a spreading component in the umbrella head. While unfolding the umbrella, an unfolding spring stretches and opens part of the middle rod pipe. The unfolding guy pulls and opens the rest section of middle rod pipe with the cooperation of the lower nest guy, and forms the complete unfolding status. While folding the umbrella, the folding spring makes the lower nest move downward under force of the folding spring. At this time, the unfolding spring does not generate tension on the middle rod pipe above it, thus the middle rod pipe above the unfolding spring can be collected through the lower nest guy or the unfolding guy. Thereby, part of the middle rod pipe can be collected while folding the umbrella cover, so it can effectively shorten the middle rod length after folding the umbrella.
238 Compact folding umbrella with hybrid ribs to resist damage due to inversion US13749973 2013-01-25 US08783275B2 2014-07-22 Kahng J. David
A folding umbrella and particularly one having multiple folds, includes a support frame incorporating a hybrid rib typically located intermediate a main rib and a rear or outermost rib. The hybrid rib is formed of multiple sections composed of first and second materials which respectively provide the desired structural strength to reduce inversions of the umbrella to an acceptable minimum and provide the hybrid rib with the desired resiliency and flexibility to return the hybrid rib to its original, unstressed shape and thereby prevent permanent damage to the hybrid rib as well as adjoining frame elements of the umbrella. The thicknesses of the multiple sections and the relative sizes of the sections also significantly contribute to the capability of the hybrid rib to achieve the desired objectives of a compact, small, folding umbrella of reduced weight, and the ability to prevent permanent damage to the frame due to inversion.
