41 | UMBRELLA ASSEMBLY | EP00967391.4 | 2000-08-14 | EP1211960A1 | 2002-06-12 | GOLDWITZ, Brian, L. |
An umbrella assembly (10) comprising a base (12), a pole (14) mounted on the base (12) extending upwardly and outwardly from the base (12), a carriage (16) slidably mounted on the pole (14), and an umbrella frame (20) including an adapter (18) releasably engagable with the carriage (16). A handle (28) is rotatably mounted on the pole (14), and a cable (136) is coupled at one end to the handle (28) and coupled at another end to the umbrella frame (20) such that by rotating the handle (28), the cable (136) is retracted and the umbrella (20) is opened, and by rotating the handle (28) in the opposite direction, the cable (136) is released, the umbrella (20) is collapsed, and the carriage (16) is slidable along the pole (14). The cable (136) is coupled to the adapter (18) such that the adapter (18) may be releasably secured to the umbrella frame (20) to allow the umbrella frame (20) to be tilted and secured in an inclined position.

An umbrella (10) supported by a mast (14) located alongside the umbrella canopy (12). The umbrella canopy (12) includes a radial arm (54) connected to an element (43) slidably mounted along the mast (14). A brace (56) pivotally attaches to the arm (54) and extend to the top of the mast (14). A flexible line (60) extends from a winder (38) within the mast (14), over a fixed pulley (62) located at the top of a mast (14), a second pulley (64) mounted on the sliding element (43), and then travels through the arm (54) and around a third pulley (68) located at the central region of the umbrella (10). This line operates the opening mechanism of the umbrella (10), and also selectively moves the sliding element (43) along the mast (14) to adjust the tilt of the canopy assembly (12).

46 | Umbrella frame | EP89311251.6 | 1989-10-31 | EP0368539A2 | 1990-05-16 | Earnshaw, John Michael; Bly, Michael Harold |
A frame for an umbrella has a shaft (4,5), ribs (7) extending radially from the top of the shaft, and stretchers (6) extending from a runner (2) on the shaft to attachment points on the ribs. The shaft comprises first and second parts (4,5) connected by a pivot or bending portion, e.g. a joint (1), located at a position between the top of the shaft and the runner (2) to allow the axis of the upper part of the shaft to be set in a position inclined to the axis of the part of the shaft below the pivot. This provides a stable tilting arrangement. Advantageously the joint (1) can be a snap-in ball joint which is easy to assemble and manipulate. |

47 | Screening device for sun rays with changing positioning and orientating | EP81830101.2 | 1981-06-22 | EP0070954A2 | 1983-02-09 | Gandini, Luciano |
The patent foresees the stationing in a pleasant position, on the car top by means of transversal guides that can be made integral with it, of an emplacement bearing in the . centre a parasol by means of coupling. By changing the position of the guides on the car top and of the emplacement on them, the most agreable positioning of the parasol can be obtained. The sunshade stem forsees an articulated joint immediately above the coupling part, permitting thus to change the parasol orientation. By adjusting in this way the emplacement positioning and the stem orienting, the adjustment of the device is obtained to the contingent employ requirements. In order to get the composition of the stem integral with the emplacement in the wished position, the coupling axial cylinder forsees, on the circumference, a spaced set of bore couples which, laid on the portable diameters in position by rotation, separately correspond with a couple of bores on the coaxial to insert, permitting in this way to introduce a locking means by clamping. |

Disclosed is an adjustable static umbrella with a static mast (2) to which an arm (10) is secured by means of a hinge (12) allowing for the arm to be either adjusted into a use position or collapsed into a rest position and to be tipped about the hinge (12) tilting axle (14) perpendicular to the mast axis. The hinge (12) has a toggle head (80) and a pair of shells (82, 82') symmetrically inverted one to each other, encompassing the toggle head (80) therein and rotatably mounted about the tilting axle (14), while the pair of hinge shells (82, 82') is provided with a length guide perpendicular to the tilting axle (14), in which the arm (10) is inserted. A locking device (90) includes a tilting hinge (92) parallel to the tilting axle (14) and a fastening device (94) allowing for the hinge shells to be pressed one against the other and against the toggle head (80) so that, when said fastening device in the length guide (84) is pulled, the arm cannot be displaced, while the hinge shells (82, 82') encompassing the toggle head cannot be twisted due to pairs of interactive contact surfaces. Releasing the locking device (94) loosens the arm (10) length guide (84), thereby enabling adjustment of the arm, in the area of a tilt angle ( alpha ) limited by two end-stops (116, 116', 118, 120), between a rest position and a use position. |
