A holder apparatus acts in frictional cooperation with books, notebooks, folders, and other hand held rigid or semi-rigid binders containing reading material. The holder allows one-handed manipulation of the book, notebook, folder, or binder free of accidental dropping or slipping. A strap having inelastic and elastic portions, and fasteners on each free end, allows the strap to encircle the book, notebook, folder or binder. The fasteners releasably attach the strap to the book, notebook, folder or binder. A hand piece attached to the strap is adapted to receive a person's hand and allows easy manipulation and holding of the book, notebook, folder or binder. A pencil holder and book mark may also be releasably attached to the strap. A strap having a single fastener and an opening adapted to receive at least one finger of a person's hand attaches and holds the book, notebook, folder or binder.

In this manner, there is continuity of the indicia across the aperture so that a pleasing appearance is maintained even when a photograph is not placed behind the aperture.

A loose-leaf binder (40) or other bound work has a slot (44) defined between the outer surface of a cover or spine (48) thereof, and a transparent overlay (46) attached over the spine (48) into which a label (54) can be inserted. The overlay (46) is sealed to the spine (48) along its longitudinal edges. An elongated, flexible label leader (42) extends through the slot (44) and protrudes therefrom at its opposite ends. An adhesive portion (52) is formed on a surface (42e) of an end portion (42b) of the leader (42). The label (54) may be inserted into the slot (44) by releasably adhering an end of the label (54) to the adhesive portion (52) of the leader (42), and pulling on an opposite end portion (42c) of the leader (42), thereby pulling the attached label (54) into the slot (44). A loop portion (42f) extends from the end portion (42b) of the leader (42), and is folded back and adhered to an opposite surface (42d) of the end portion (42b). Part of the loop portion (42f) protrudes from the slot (44) when the label (54) is fully inserted, and is pulled to smoothly peel the adhesive portion ( 52 ) from the label ( 54 ) and detach the leader (42) from the label (54) and binder (40).

A fragrance releasing insert for magazines provides a fragrance sample to readers. The insert of the present invention is formed from a single substrate which has a removable portion which contains the fragrance sample. The removable portion forms a diffusion resistant envelope around the fragrance sample which reduces the possibility of inadvertent contamination of the magazine by fragrance. While the removable diffusion resistant envelope is attached to the remainder of the insert in the magazine, the fragrance cannot be sampled. However, after removal of the envelope along a pair of perforations, the fragrance may be sampled by peeling open the envelope, thus causing a release of the fragrance.

A book puller (10) has a main body (23) with generally square end portions (13, 14) and a center portion (12) having concavely curved outer edges (68). The center portion (12) has a reinforcing layer (24). The end portions (13, 14) are attached to the front and back covers of a book by pressure sensitive adhesive, with the junctures (19, 20) between the center portion (12) and the end portions (13, 14) positioned at the spine edges (21, 22) of the book. The center portion (12) loops around the spine (66) of the book and is spaced therefrom to form a handle (38). Pulling forces exerted on the handle (38) by inserting a finger behind it are distributed by the concave edges (68) to the end portions (13, 14). The pullers (10) may be manufactured by separating a roll of body forming material from its backing material, inserting a strip of reinforcing material therebetween, pulling the three layers through pressure rollers, and die cutting the pullers (10). An alternative method involves cutting body forming material and its backing material into strips, removing the center portion of each strip of backing material and replacing it with reinforcing material, and die cutting the strips.

There is releasable adhesive between the facing sides of the second and the third segments, to releasably secure the outer and intermediate segments together in face-to-face relation. There is a burstable encapsulated scent sample between the facing portions of the second and the third segments so that the separation of the facing portions of the second and third segments releases the sample scent. A method of making a scent sampler comprising the steps of applying a burstable scent sample to a continuous web, folding the web over itself along a first longitudinally extending fold line to form an integral flap that overlies the web and to sandwich the burstable scent sample between the flap and the web; folding the first fold line underneath the web along a second longitudinally extending fold line so that the burstable scent sample is below the web, and a portion of the flap remains above the web; and unfolding the portion of the flap above the web to form a z-fold in the web.

A loose-leaf binder (10) or other bound volume has a slot (24) defined between the outer surface of a spine (12) thereof, and a transparent overlay (22) attached over the spine (12), into which a label (30) can be inserted. The cover (22) is sealed to the spine (12) along its longitudinal edges (46). An elongated, flexible label leader (26) is designed to extend through the slot (24) and protrude therefrom at its opposite ends. An adhesive portion (28) is formed at one end of the leader (26). The label (30) may be inserted into the slot (24) by releasably adhering one end of the label (30) to the adhesive portion (28) of the leader (26), and pulling on the other end of the leader (26), thereby pulling the attached label (30) into the slot (24). The binder (10) may be retrofit with a label leader (26) by inserting a narrow, thin tool (40) into the slot (24) such that the opposite ends of the tool (40) protrude from the ends of the slot (24), releasably adhering the adhesive portion (28) of the leader (26) to one end of the tool (40), and pulling on the other end of the tool (40) such that the leader (26) is pulled into the slot (24) and the adhesive portion (28) of the leader (26) operatively protrudes from the slot (24). Where one transverse edge (22a,22b) of the cover (22) is initially sealed to the spine (12), one end of the tool (40) may be formed with a sharp cutting edge (44) for puncturing the sealed edge (22a,22b) of the cover (22) to enable the tool (40) and leader (26) to pass therethrough.

The invention is composed of two elongated flat prongs composed of a stiff but flexible material that are joined at one end to form a handle. A finger placed on a protruding edge corner of the paper sheet allows withdrawal of the invention from the window pocket without removing the paper sheet. The invention may be used for extraction of the paper sheet as well.
