A tape cartridge to be loaded in an unloadable manner in a tape printing device having an open/close cover to open/close a cartridge loading section where the tape cartridge is loaded. The tape cartridge includes: a tab portion which is provided on a surface of the tape cartridge that faces the open/close cover when loaded in the cartridge loading section, and which is configured to move between a gripping position and a non-gripping position in relation to the surface; and an energizing portion which energizes the tab portion toward the gripping position. The tab portion is pressed by a pressing portion provided on the open/close cover, in a closed state of the open/close cover. The energizing portion is displaced to resist the pressing force of the pressing portion via the tab portion.

16 Color thermal printer US723951 1996-09-26 US5711620A 1998-01-27 Hidemi Sasaki; Kenichi Shiba; Satoru Goto
In a one-pass multi-head type color thermal printer, a color recording material is transported by a plurality of feed roller pairs, each of which consists of a capstan roller and a pinch roller and is disposed behind one of a plurality of thermal heads. The pinch roller is movable relative to the capstan roller to nip the recording material, and the capstan roller is driven each individually to transport the recording material at an appropriate speed through each of the thermal heads. A platen roller is disposed in opposition to each of the thermal head so as to be movable to and from the opposed thermal head, whereas the thermal heads are mounted stationary.
17 Printer with feed fault detection US451005 1995-05-25 US5661515A 1997-08-26 Charles M. Hevenor; Martin C. Voelker
A thermal printer utilizes a donor web bearing a transfer ink to create enhanced printed images on a strip of sheet material with half-tones, color and other attractive features. The donor web is mounted on supply and take-up spools within a cassette that is removable from the printer in order to change the color or other printing characteristics of the web for various printing operations. A drag brake mounted in the printer connects with the supply spool through a disengageable coupling to maintain tension on the donor web during printing and to allow the web and cassette to be removed from the printer. A feed detection sensor in the form of an optical encoder is also contained within the printer and coupled to the supply spool through the same disengageable coupling utilized by the drag brake to detect feed faults.

19 Automatic journal loading assembly US617255 1996-03-18 US5613787A 1997-03-25 Barry E. Passer; Michael Smith; Robert Delaney
A journal printing apparatus is disclosed for a journal receipt printing machine. The apparatus semi-automatically loads the journal paper onto the take-up spool. The machine is also characterized by drop-in loading for the journal paper supply roll. The journal printing apparatus utilizes a duckbill take-up core or spool that is bifurcated into stationary and movable sections. The bifurcated spool is spring loaded, and is caused to bias closed by movement of a cam. The leader of the journal paper is placed over the stationary section of the spool and a gear train causes the cam to rotate again. The gear train then forces the duckbill spool shut against its biasing, thus capturing the paper between the spool sections. In this fashion, the procedure of journal paper resupply is accomplished without the user having to thread paper.
