There is described an inspection system (50) for in-line inspection of sheet or web material on an intaglio printing press, wherein the inspection system comprises an optical quality control apparatus for carrying out inspection of a printed area on a printed side of the sheet or web material, the optical quality control apparatus including a camera system (55) with one or more camera units each comprising at least one line-scan camera (56) for scanning and acquiring an image of the printed area while the sheet or web material is being transported in the intaglio printing press past the camera system (55). A location of the at least one line-scan camera (56) in the intaglio printing press along a delivery path of the sheet or web material is such that cyclical vibrations that spread periodically throughout the intaglio printing press during operation of the intaglio printing press do not occur while the camera system (55) is scanning the printed area of the sheet or web material and acquiring a complete image of the printed area.

Super hard particles, such as ceramic particles, are scattered on a surface of a sheet-shaped base member. A plating layer is then formed on the surface of the base member in a way that a convex and concave profile formed of the super hard particles is left. In the plating layer, fine particles of low surface energy resin are uniformly dispersed.

In a printing press and attached onto the transfer cylinders, an anti-marking system that uniformly supports the transport and the release of the wet printed sheet from one station to the next. The anti-marking sheet consists of a two plus layer system, the outer layer being a textured surface and the inner layer being a microcellular material that is both compressible and resilient. The outer textured layer may be treated with either conductive/anti-static layers or an ink repellent layer or both. The two plus layer system is easily attached to both transfer cylinders and tracking/skeleton wheels using any combination of fixtures from Velcro™, magnetic, metallic, and pressure sensitive double sided tape to elastic loops.

When the ultraviolet drying device (37) is turned on and the photoelectric sensor (70) detects that a contamination-preventive member is mounted on the outer surface of the transport cylinder (36), the driving of a printing press stops. Also, when an IR lamp (46) of an infrared drying device (47) is turned on and the photoelectric sensor (70) detects that the contamination-preventive member is not mounted on the outer surface of the transport cylinder (36), the driving of the printing press is stopped. With this arrangement, deformation of the contamination-preventive member mounted to protect the cylinder is prevented in a liquid transfer apparatus.

In one operating situation, a strip is printed as it passes through a printing gap of the printing unit. In another operating situation, the strip is guided through the printing gap by the guiding element in a non-contact manner. The guiding element includes, on the outer surface, a plurality of openings adapted for the discharge of a pressurized fluid. These openings are micro-openings of a diameter less than 500 μm.
