A seal carving apparatus includes a thermal head having a plurality of heat generating elements disposed in lines, and thermal drive control means that performs a control process of selectively and thermally driving the individual heat generating elements while moving the thermal head and a porous material in relative to each other with the thermal head being in abutment with the porous material, thereby forming a seal face on the porous material. The thermal drive control means controls a pulse time width for thermally driving the individual heat generating elements of the thermal head under PWM control based on gradation image data having a gradation value, thereby forming a seal with a gradation on the porous material. |

Methods and devices for making a handheld stamp are provided. In one aspect, a stamp image is applied to a photosensitive and/or photo-reactive stamp surface that, when exposed to light having a particular wavelength for a particular amount of time, produces a handheld stamp. The photosensitive stamp surface may be a photosensitive foam, a photosensitive gel, and the like. In another embodiment, a rub-on transfer image is applied to a surface of a porous plastic sheet, where the applied rub-on transfer image prohibits the flow of ink through portions of the porous plastic sheet. In another embodiment, a transparency masks a portion of a photosensitive transfer material during light treatment to produce a stamp mask. The stamp mask is then applied to a porous plastic stamping material to produce a handheld stamp. |

Provided are methods of patterning porous materials on the micro- and nanometer scale using a direct imprinting technique. The present methods of direct imprinting of porous substrates (“DIPS”), can utilize reusable stamps that may be directly applied to an underlying porous material to selectively, mechanically deform and/or crush particular regions of the porous material, creating a desired structure. The process can be performed in a matter of seconds, at room temperature or higher temperatures, and eliminates the requirement for intermediate masking materials and etching chemistries. |

A simple and convenient apparatus and method for producing stamps using a photo polymer. A sandwich is constructed which includes a first ridged UV clear panel, a translucent sheet having a negative image, a first cover sheet, a pair of spacers framing the image, a quantity of liquid photo polymer filling the area over the image and between the spacers, a substrate film over the photo polymer filling, a second cover sheet, and a second ridged UV clear panel. The sandwich is held together by clamps and is placed over a raised UV window in a UV window box to selectively harden the photo polymer. Following initial hardening, excess photo polymer is washed away, the hardened photo polymer is immersed in an exposure mixture and placed over the UV window for final hardening. The raised UV window allows easy assembly of the sandwich and clearance for the clamps. |

A stamp unit comprising a holding unit, and a method of manufacturing a stamp unit, comprising, holding a stamp material in the holder member to create a holding unit; positioning the holding unit in a stamp manufacturing device so that the holding unit is disposed between a presser unit and an irradiation unit of the stamp manufacturing device; and pressing the holding unit by means of the presser unit so as to force a surface of the stamp material against the irradiation unit to form a desired image on a surface of the stamp material when irradiated by the irradiation unit to thereby create a stamp surface. The height of the holder member is selected in proportion to a size of the stamp material to provide a uniform pressure on the holding unit irrespective of the size of the stamp material. When the holding unit is pressed in the presser unit, a reaction force works on portions of the presser unit and the irradiation unit in proportion to the stamp material size. The reaction force causes portions of the presser unit and irradiation unit to bend. Thus, the height of the holding unit is selected in proportion to the stamp material size so as to absorb the bending or to increase the amount of pressure. Thus, the stamp material can be pressed uniformly in the stamp manufacturing device regardless of the stamp material size ensuring a good quality manufactured stamp surface. |

There is provided a stamp-making method and apparatus therefor for making a square or circular stamp which can be accurately imprinted with reference to a top-indicating mark provided thereon, without discriminating the orientation of the stamp image engraved on the stamp surface thereof. There is formed first direction-oriented image data having each of a plurality of component elements of plate-making image data oriented in a first direction. When it is detected that it is difficult to discriminate orientation of the stamp body having the mark without reference to the mark, an instruction is given for arranging the image data in a manner oriented in a second direction. According to the instruction, the first direction-oriented image data is converted to a second direction-oriented image data in which the component elements of the plating-making image data are oriented in the second direction. A stamp body is engraved by the use of the second direction-oriented image data to thereby make a stamp. |

When the holder 4 is set in the storage part 70, the cam effect is generated between the positioning projection 77 of a fixing member 71 and a slant recess 43 of the holder 4, thereby positioning the holder 4 to a predetermined stamp making position in the storage part 70. In a state where the holder 4 is positioned in place, microswitches 75A and others disposed near the projection 77 of the storage part 70 are selectively turned on and off by cooperation between detection recesses 44 and a peripheral wall 38 of the holder 4, so that the existence and the type (size) of the holder 4 are detected. |

A stamp-making apparatus is provided in which a transparent presser plate is arranged such that the presser plate is parallel with a stamp-making object material, an ink ribbon having a stamp image formed thereon is urged against the stamp-making object material via the presser plate, and exposure of the stamp-making object material to light is carried out via the ink ribbon as a mask. A ribbon feeder rolls out an ink ribbon wound around one end portion thereof to a position facing the stamp-making object material, and then rolls up the ink ribbon around another end portion thereof. A relative translation of the presser plate and the stamp-making object material is made toward each other by moving at least one of the presser plate and the stamp-making object material to thereby urge the ink ribbon against the stamp-making object material. Guide means guides the ink ribbon when the ink ribbon is fed, to space between the presser plate and the stamp-making object material. Tension of the ink ribbon is regulated in a manner linked to operation of the relative translation of the presser plate and the stamp-making object material made toward each other. |

A stamp unit has a transparent film which protects a stamp surface of the stamp material at the time of transportation of the stamp unit, during storage until a user starts to produce a stamp after purchasing the stamp unit, and during production of the stamp plate. The transparent film is thermally adhered on the lower edge of the holder member and is capable of protecting the surface of the stamp material until the start of the stamp printing. The transparent film is capable of easily and economically adhering to the stamp material without adhering to a thermal adhesion jig. |
