The container preferably includes both densified and undensified paper-based material.
51 Method of producing a package, particularly for packaging products, and package formed using such a method US40855 1998-03-18 US6027437A 2000-02-22 Luigino Vercelli; Giuseppe Rispoli
A method of producing a package, particularly for packaging products, the method including the steps of feeding a sheet material to a forming die; deforming and cutting the sheet material to obtain a hollow semifinished body of revolution having at least one inlet opening; forming, on an edge of the semifinished body, two localized bends on opposite sides of the opening and aligned with each other along an axis; permanently deforming the semifinished body by rotating two portions of the semifinished body, located on opposite sides of the axis, about the axis to form an elongated body in a stable, at least partly-open condition, and which may be brought manually into an unstable closed condition in which it is maintained by a releasable retaining device.
52 Apparatus and method for forming an article US927008 1997-09-10 US5985187A 1999-11-16 Donald E. Weder; Frank Craig; Michael J. King
An apparatus and method for semi-automatically forming a sheet of material into an article, such as a flower pot cover, is provided. The apparatus includes a male die, a female die, a presence sensing assembly, and a control assembly. The presence sensing assembly is positioned for sensing the presence of an operator in a sheet feeding zone which is located between an operator's station and a zone of operation of the male die and the female die. The control assembly initiates an article forming sequence, wherein the male die and the female die are moved from a discharge position to a forming position to form the article from the sheet of material and subsequently returned to the discharge position, in response to the operator clearing the presence sensing assembly subsequent to the operator breaking the presence sensing assembly while positioning a sheet of material between the male die and the female die via the sheet feeding area.
53 Apparatus and method for automatically forming an article US9632 1998-01-20 US5944646A 1999-08-31 Donald E. Weder; Joseph G.. Straeter; William F. Straeter; Frank Craig; Michael J. King; William C. Funk
An apparatus and method for forming a sheet of material into an article, such as a flower pot cover, is provided. The apparatus includes a female die and a male die. A sheet of material is positioned between the male die and the female die. The male and female dies are shaped such that at least a portion of the male die is receivable in the opening of the female die to form the article. The apparatus further includes means for supplying a stream of air between the female die and the formed article to release the formed article from the female die and means for holding the formed article against the male die as the male die and the female die are positioned from a forming position to a discharge position whereby the formed article is removed from the female die.
54 Article forming system US795582 1997-02-05 US5846618A 1998-12-08 Donald E. Weder; E. H. Weder; R. E. Jack Dunn; Franklin J. Craig
An article forming system for forming at least one sheet of material into an article, such as a decorative flower pot cover for example, and a novel article formed utilizing such a system. The article forming system includes a male die, a female die and a platform having a support surface and an opening extending through the support surface. The female die is disposed generally within the opening in the platform with the upper end of the female die being disposed near the support surface. The article forming system includes means for slidingly holding portions of the sheet of material generally against portions of the support surface while permitting such held portions to slide on the support surface during the forming of the article for cooperating in forming a decorative border on the decorative flower pot cover type of article which flares generally away from the flower pot object when the decorative flower pot cover article is applied to the flower pot. The article formed in accordance with the present invention includes overlapping folds formed by overlapping portions of the sheet of material to bring portions of the sheet of material into bondable contact, the overlapping folds providing the mechanical strength necessary for the formed sheet of material to hold a predetermined shape thereby permitting the utilization of thinner sheets of material to form articles.
55 Sheets and sheet rolls of wrapping material having information selectable by choice blocks US429255 1995-04-25 US5807224A 1998-09-15 Donald E. Weder
Sheets and rolls of sheets with labels having multiple choice blocks and information areas corresponding to the choice blocks. The sheets include a closure bonding material for securing the sheets around items to be wrapped. The labels are detachably connected to the sheets with an adhesive, a perforation or a tear line. Spots of closure bonding material may be placed on the labels to hold the labels in a wrapped position. The information areas typically include data which may be selected to describe the source, type and characteristics of the items to be wrapped in the sheets. The sheets may also include detachable sleeves for protecting wrapped items during shipping and handle areas which may be punched out of the sheets for grasping the wrapped items. The handle areas may also contain information similar to that on the detachable labels. Sheets having labels with choice blocks may also be used for forming flower pots or flower pot covers. By providing such labels on the unformed sheets, it is not necessary to add tags or labels after the sheets are formed into flower pots or flower pot covers.

An apparatus and method for automatically forming at least two sheets of material into an article, such as a flower pot cover, is provided. The apparatus includes a first roll of sheet material, a second roll of sheet material, a female die and a male die. A first sheet of material and a second sheet of material are automatically formed from the first and second rolls of sheet material, respectively, and the first and second sheets of material are positioned between the male die and the female die. The male and female dies are shaped such that at least a portion of the male die is receivable in the opening of the female die to form the article. The formed articles are automatically stacked.
