5 Protective Sleeve For A Disc-Shaped Recording Medium, Such As A Compact Disc, A Holder For A Sleeve And An Assembly Of A Holder And A Sleeve US10597332 2005-01-24 US20080308434A1 2008-12-18 Frits Ludvigsen
A protective sleeve (1) comprises sheets (2, 3, 4, 5) of a flexible material. The sheets (2, 3, 4, 5) are arranged in four layers on top of each other, each sheet (2, 3, 4, 5) having a top edge, an opposing bottom edge and two mutually opposed side edges connecting the top edges and bottom edges. Each respective sheet (2, 3, 4, 5) is attached to an adjacent sheet along at least two opposing edges of the respective sheet so as to form a front pocket (7), a central pocket (8) and a back pocket (9). The central pocket (8) is open at the top edges and is adapted to contain a disc-shaped recording medium (10). The bottom of the central pocket (8), determining the depth into which the recording medium (10) may be inserted in the central pocket (8), is defined at a substantial distance (D) from the bottom edges of the sheets (2, 3, 4, 5). A holder comprises a flat bottom element carrying a plurality of ribs forming between them slots, in which are provided lateral projections for engagement with a fastening strip of the sleeves.

Apparatus for forming a disc envelope from a prepunched, flexible, plastic blank having two sections connected at the heads thereof and containing a drive hole at the same location in each section. The drive holes are located on respective hubs which are located at the same position on respective folding plates. The end edge of a mandrel is pressed against the blank in the area between the two sections while the folding plates are moved from a horizontal to a vertical position pulling the drive holes taut on the hubs and thereby locating the center fold between the two sections of the blank flap folding apparatus and sealing apparatus are attached to and swing into operating position with the respective folding plates to form the side flap folds and seal the folded flaps.
9 Folding of flat sheet to exact interior height US270873 1981-06-05 US4415325A 1983-11-15 Gilbert Fuchs; Norman Crowley; Randall Wink
A folding apparatus and method for folding a flat sheet so that an exact interior height is provided between the two folded portions is disclosed. The flat sheet is folded about a shim having a folding edge which is rounded and which has a thickness corresponding to the desired interior height. The flat shim is positioned on the flat sheet with the edge of the shim located along the line where the fold in the sheet is to be made. Initially, the portion of the sheet away from the shim is folded approximately 90.degree. by tangential bending on the folding edge of the shim. Next, a die having a facing edge mating with the folding edge of the shim is pushed onto the folding edge of the shim. The portion of the sheet which was folded 90.degree. is thus folded onto the top of the shim to approximately 180.degree.. With this two step folding, an exact interior height adjacent the fold is provided. The method and apparatus of the present invention is conveniently used for forming flat jackets having an exact interior height. A plurality of these flat jackets can be formed by providing a plurality of forming devices on a turntable where each step of the forming process is sequentially performed.
10 Improvements in and relating to the manufacture of record sleeves US968213 1978-12-11 US4232593A 1980-11-11 Norman J. Garrod

11 Record jacket making machine US43095074 1974-01-04 US3908524A 1975-09-30 SHORE PAUL B
The essence of the invention resides in the cooperative operation of synchronized components from which results the automatic production of one or two pocket record jackets. The invention comprises an elongated carriage having a laterally extending carriage portion forming a ''''T'''' shaped machine. At one end of the elongated carriage there is provided a feed mechanism which feeds a first paperboard blank to a notching station where a part of the longitudinal edges are notched. From the notching station the paperboard notched blank is fed to a scoring station where the notched blank is appropriately scored so that glue flaps may be formed at the feed station. Simultaneously, from the opposite end of the elongated carriage there is fed a second paperboard blank, from a feed station and the two blanks are joined together at a rotary station where the second blank is glued atop the first blank and where one or two phonograph record pockets are formed. The joined blanks are urged in a transverse direction onto the laterally extending carriage portion of the T shaped machine by a conveyor transfer mechanism. The joined first and second paperboard blanks thereafter travel to a die mechanism where they are scored and trimmed to form a spine and are moved to a second folding station where through a conveyor and bar device one half of the joined paperboard blanks is folded 180* along the score lines onto the other fold, thereby forming the completed record jacket having one or two phonograph record pockets.

PURPOSE: To prevent looseness, distortion, corrugation, risings, etc. from occurring on a folded portion, when jacket blank is folded to form an envelope-like substance, by rubbing and folding jacket blank with a folding bar. CONSTITUTION: Jacket blank 10 to which a linear is attached is put on a table 20 and a core plate 21 is put on said jacket blank to hold the left half 13 of the jacket blank 10. Thereafter, a holding bar 22 is brought close to the table 20, the end B of the front upper corner is inserted into the front lower side of a core plate 21 and the lower surface of the middle part of the jacket blank 10 is pushed by the force of revolution of the folding bar 22 against the projection of the core plate 21. Then, the pivot 24 of the folding bar is moved back, upward about 180° through an arc locus A. At the beginning of this movement, the end B of the folding bar squeezes the lower surface of the middle part of the jacket blank 10, retracts to the right to attach the middle part of the jacket blank 10 by the elastic force of a spring 25 to the projection part of the core plate 21.
