There is disclosed an apparatus for successively making plastic bags. A sheet of side gusset material is supplied to and interposed between the webs of panel material. One of the layers of side gusset material is folded along the longitudinal first folded line to make the layers of side gusset material open along with the auxiliary gusset portion and make an open surface formed on the layers of auxiliary gusset portion. One of the webs of panel material is turned along a longitudinal turned line formed between the longitudinal joint line and the longitudinal first folded line to make a turned portion formed in one of the webs of panel material and superposed on the open surfaces of the webs of panel material and the layers of auxiliary gusset portion. The other web of panel material is folded along a longitudinal second folded line spaced from the longitudinal joint line to make a folded portion formed in the other web of panel material and superposed on the open surfaces of the webs of panel material and the layers of auxiliary gusset portion. |

Plastic bags are successively made by intermittently feeding upper and lower panel material webs that are temporarily fixed to side gusset material layers. The webs are joined along a joint line. One web is folded along a first line spaced from the joint line to open the webs and form a surface on the webs. One gusset layer is folded along the first line to open the gusset layers along with an auxiliary gusset portion and form a surface on the layers of the auxiliary gusset portion. One web is turned along a turned line formed between the joint line and the first line to make a turned portion formed in one web and superimposed on the surfaces. The other web is folded along a second line spaced from the joint line to make a folded portion in the other web and superposed on the surfaces.
13 | Flat bottomed plastic bag | US257361 | 1999-02-25 | US6095687A | 2000-08-01 | Robert B. Dematteis |
An expandable plastic film gusseted bag is utilized. As in conventional bag manufacture, each front gusset panel is connected to a rear gusset panel and each of the gusset panels is foldable between the front panel and the rear panel to provide a continuous bag periphery. A bottom joins the bottom of the front panel, rear panel, two rear gusset panels and two front gusset panels at substantial right angles to the side edges of the front panel, rear panel and gusset panels to close the bottom of the bag and leave only the top open. The improvement provides each plastic bag with eight first linear folding axes, each configured adjacent the bottom and within one of the front panel, each front gusset panel, the rear panel and each rear gusset panel. These folding axes extend from a joinder of a gusset at the bottom to the side edges of the front panel or the rear panel and the front gusset panel or the rear gusset panel at an approximate 45.degree. angle. The folding axes are made by a process from to a group consisting of either a cold seal or a hinge in the plastic film while the film is planar. On opening of the expandable gusseted bag, the bottom seal of the bag is disposed adjacent the gussets and forms a generally triangular shaped overlay relative to the gussets to form a flat bottom bag.

A plastic bag is disclosed of the type to hold flat or awkward shaped objects, which is constructed of a top, a bottom, a first and second end, and two sides. A slit is utilized to allow entry into the bag. The slit may be positioned across the side or across the top.
15 | Method for continuously producing envelopes, bags, and shipping pouches and the product so produced | US427893 | 1995-04-26 | US5478302A | 1995-12-26 | Martin Bluemle |
The invention relates to a method for the continuous manufacture of envels, bags, shipping pouches, or the like, of web type material, especially paper or the like, with or without side folds, including lateral gumming or central gumming and with a respective folded and glued bed bottom, whereby the web type material is first precreased, cut, provided with adhesive or gummed, folded, severed, prefabricated into a tubular blank, and finally closed at its bottom. The gist of the invention comprises:a) that the steps for forming the bottom take place during a continuous feed advance, andb) that the material serving for the formation of the lower bottom flap (42) is displaced backwardly opposite to the transport direction in a zig-zag fold during the bottom formation,c) whereby bottom side tongues (10, 11) lay themselves laterally outwardly in the case of an envelope, a bag, or a shipping pouch, with side folds (63, 64), andd) whereby said bottom side tongues lay themselves over inwardly in case of an envelope, a bag, or a shipping pouch without side folds.
16 | Collapsible enclosure having foldable side flaps and a non-foldable bottom portion | US175640 | 1993-12-30 | US5398866A | 1995-03-21 | Martin Bluemle |
An enclosure such as a letter envelope, a casing, shipping pouch, file for, or the like, is made of paper or similar suitable material to have a front portion (3) and a back portion (4) as well as side flaps (6) and (7). The enclosure may be provided with a closure flap (23) that is either part of the front portion (3) or part of the back portion (4). A bottom portion (5) is arranged between the back portion (4) and the front portion (3), whereby the bottom portion is preferably an integral component of the front and back portions. The side flaps (6, 7) are provided with respective folding creases extending longitudinally and foldable bottom side tongues (18, 19) are provided at the bottom end of the side flap (6, 7). These basic features are common to a plurality of different enclosures which provide a substantially larger enclosed volume than heretofore.
17 | Container | US177706 | 1994-01-04 | US5348398A | 1994-09-20 | Jerry E. Buchanan |
A container 10 and method of making the same preferably from a single web of flexible material wherein the method comprises placing a V-fold, or modified flat V-fold, in a sheet of such material, creating two subsections whose V-fold members (58, 60) are attached to the respective subsections preferably along a longitudinal fold line. First and second side edge weld lines (100, a,b) are made thereby connecting the respective subsections to their own V-fold members (58, 60) as well as those of the opposite subsections. Oblique weld lines (86, 88) then interconnect the point of intersection of the side edge weld lines (66,76) and longitudinal fold line. The bottom wall (2) is formed by folding the legs (80, 82) inwardly with the endmost portions of which pivoting along a lateral axis of the bottom wall (2) upwardly towards the first and second side edge weld line (100, a,b) thereby reinforcing the stress-bearing bottom.
