A conveyor and dog arrangement engages the carton bottom near one feed station and moves the carton bottom in a first direction along the work surface toward the discharge end, with a pair of pivoted flaps along the direction of travel for centering and guiding the carton bottom into a nesting arrangement with the carton top as the carton bottom moves along the direction of travel. | ||||||

| A carton assembly machine for assembling a cover on a base is disclosed. The machine includes a frame and a first conveyor for transporting a plurality of bases. A second conveyor transports a plurality of folded covers. At an unfolding station, suction cups grasp the folded cover and are pivoted to open the cover. The cover is then moved to an assembly station where it is positioned over a carton base. A plurality of hand assemblies are moved vertically downwardly to grasp the cover and move it into overlying relationship with the base. The hand assemblies are then removed and the assembled carton moved to a tape station where tape heads apply a strip of tape to the assembled cover and base. After taping, the assembled carton is removed from the carton assembly machine. | ||||||

| The present invention is a method and apparatus for assembling a package comprising an open-topped receptacle and a slide actuated closure member. The closure member is comprised of a slide portion connected to a closure portion by a hinge portion. The open-top of the receptacle is placed in contact with the closure portion normal to the path of the closure member and affixed thereto while the movement of the closure member is momentarily interrupted. While the closure member is stationary, the slide portion is forced toward the closure portion buckling the hinge portion out of the plane of the closure member. The receptacle is thereafter rotated about the closure portion to contact the buckled hinge and a portion of the slide portion. The slide portion is thereafter wrapped around the receptacle and affixed in a manner allowing reciprocating movement of the slide portion about the receptacle. | ||||||
