A carton-shaping machine includes a material conveying mechanism, an opening mechanism, a shaping mechanism, and a band sticking mechanism combined on a worktable. A vertical and a horizontal cylinder of the opening mechanism control fixing members to force needles on them insert firmly in an upper folding portion of a carton and turn the carton to extend to standing position so as to permit opening process operated with accuracy. Then, the band sticking mechanism may seal the bottom portion of the carton and the carton is moved to the packing process, without any need of manual work to turn it for a right angle to stand upright.

The cartons including a foldable flap. The vacuum holder includes a set of vacuum cups that will engage a flap and at an appropriate time in the carton erection sequence will be positively actuated under control of a power actuator to fold the flap to a desired position prior to depositing the carton on a conveyor line. A rotary manifold carries both vacuum for vacuum cups holding the carton, and fluid pressure for the power actuators to the rotating carton placer.
183 Rotary object feeder US920880 1997-08-29 US5910078A 1999-06-08 Peter Guttinger; Tony Spadafora; Michael Elent
The present invention is directed to a rotary object feeder, which feeds objects from a first location to a second. The object feeder feeds the object from a pick-up location to an off-loading location, by moving an object pick-up member along a trajectory formed by rotating the object pick-up member about a first axis of rotation; rotating this first axis of rotation about a second axis of rotation substantially parallel to the first axis of rotation and spaced therefrom; rotating the second axis of rotation about a third axis of rotation substantially parallel to the second axis of rotation and spaced therefrom. The invention is particularly suited for use in a rotary carton feeder having numerous suction cup pick-up members, used to feed cartons from a pick-up location, through an operating location to a drop-off location. The relative rates of rotation of the pick-up members may be chosen to minimize their tangential velocities at the pick-up, operating or drop-off locations. The invention is particular well suited for use as a rotary carton feeder.
184 Apparatus for folding sheet blanks by endless conveyor belts US700501 1996-08-02 US5800329A 1998-09-01 Lars Fager; Bengt sberg
Apparatus for folding sheet blanks (1), e.g. for boxes and trays from carton or corrugated cardboard. It includes press means (6, 7) attached to at least one endless conveying means (10). The press means are intended to coact with selected parts (2, 3) of the blanks for folding them up or down from the plane of the blank during their passage through the apparatus. The blanks are arranged to be conveyed through the apparatus at the same speed as that at which the conveying means is driven. The latter is guided in a helical path by an elongate, rigid structure (8, 9) forming continuous support for the conveying means. During the entire folding operation the operative ones of the press means attached to the conveying means press against the same area on the part of the blank with which they coact.

187 Carton transfer system US549989 1995-10-30 US5662577A 1997-09-02 Urs Reuteler
A carton transfer assembly having a rotary feeder that rotates a series of selectors about a transfer path between a carton feeder and a transport conveyor. The selectors each include vacuum engagement members adapted to engage a selected carton to remove the selected carton from the carton feeder and carry the carton toward a transport conveyor as the rotary feeder rotates the selectors about the transfer path. Each selector further includes stingers that are operated off of the vacuum applied to the cartons by the vacuum engagement members to move the stingers between extended and retracted positions. As the vacuum is applied to the stingers, the stingers are retracted. When the vacuum is disengaged, the stingers move to an extended position to engage and spread apart the panels of the cartons to open the cartons prior to the deposit of the cartons within the carton pockets of the transport conveyor.
188 Tubular carton opening, presenting, and closing apparatus US198060 1994-02-18 US5558614A 1996-09-24 David L. Anderson; Irvan L. Pazdernik

A transfer arm (A) pivots to a pick-up position where a vacuum assembly (B) picks up a top box and pivots the top box to a box-opening position at approximately 79.degree. from the pick-up position. At the box-opening position, the box is rotated 45.degree. from its horizontal pick-up position, and first and second arms (78, 80) of vacuum assembly (B) open the box to a rectangular shape. Thereafter, the transfer arm moves the box to closure section (22). A drive belt (88) and drive pulleys (88a, 88b) rotate vacuum assembly (B) so that the box is vertically oriented when deposited at flap closure section (24). A pressure foot (92) extends into the box at the closure section and holds the box against the end flaps (29a) and side flaps (31a) as they are closed. The closed flaps are then moved across taping section (26) by horizontal movement of pressure foot (92). The flaps are taped closed, and the box is moved to exit section (28) where it is released upon demand from a product feed line.
