4 Apparatus for automatically gluing head and tail ends of stock material US14454002 2014-08-07 US09573336B2 2017-02-21 Greg Magnell; Jeffrey Willers; David G. Flessert
Feedstock is delivered perpendicular to the line of applied glue in an automated gluing machine, thereby simplifying operation and better accommodating other in-line factory or assembly processes. The machine comprises an input nip for receiving the head end and the tail end of a sheet stock in overlapping registration, with the tail end being longer than the head end. A clamp mechanism holds the overlapping sheet stock in position while a glue applicator applies glue to one side of the tail end. An output nip holds the glued side of the tail end against the head end, and apparatus is provided for ejecting the sheet stock once the tail end has been glued to the head end. The glued stock may be ejected back toward the operator or away from the operator and through the machine, enabling the machine to be placed in-line with other machines for a continuous directional or linear flow.

Another coil of insert material is provided adjacent an insert-making unit that pulls the insert-material web from its coil, prints on the insert-material web, cuts the printed insert-material coil into individual inserts, and puts the inserts into respective ones of the open boxes. The boxes are closed after insertion thereinto of the objects and inserts. A computer is connected to the box-, label-, and insert-making unit for synchronously operating same in accordance with a program.
7 Manually fed machine for the formation of tabs on sheet stock US020868 1993-02-19 US5277722A 1994-01-11 Craig Block; Gerd Hochrain
A manual feed machine for the application of tabs to sheet stock has a strip feeder for feeding a foil strip into the path of a sheet which is manually insertable beneath the cutter for the file strip to entrain a previously cut segment into the heating jaws. A die cutter downstream of the foil application can cut the tab after the jaw opens and the sheet is transported to the cutter. Only after the perimeter of the sheet has cleared the blade, is the previously advanced foil strip cut to form the next segment.

The feed module includes adjustable upper and lower feed assemblies and the remaining prefold/fold, fold, delivery and final fold modules include upper and lower carriages, which upper carriages may be adjusted upwardly with respect to the feed assembly and bottom carriages, respectively, and both carriages in the prefold/fold, fold, delivery and final fold modules are laterally adjustable to accommodate cartons of various width. While the respective belts in each of the folder/gluer modules are independently driven, all belt drive motors are synchronized to insure that the belts operate at the same speed. The belt-carrying mechanisms in all of the folder/gluer modules are designed to facilitate optimum belt replacement without the necessity of dismantling the carrying mechanisms.
